Q: What is the rough opening size needed for the 36" fan? It's going in a concrete building so it can't be bigger than the opening.

Suggested opening for the 36” is 37”. Refer to the owners manual.

Q: I have this fan Installed in our shop. It is repeatedly overheating and will not run until it cools down. Is there a common culprit or way to fix it?

Just bought 2 of them, one installed and not even 2 hours goes by and it overheated. Ran the wiring for the other, same thing. Its getting hot and shutting off. Seriously, 2 for 2 not working very well. Even better, one showed up without the keyway and the set screw was in backwards so when we opened the box the fan blades was just bouncing around inside.

Q: Is the 36" fan brushless? why can't you use the ilg8sfsc speed controller with it?

The ILG8SFSC speed controller does NOT work with this fan. I installed the ILG8SFSC speed controller and after 20 minutes it lost the ability to vary the fan speed. I am now installing a VFD to control the fan speed. Iliving customer support never answered my requests for help on the matter.
