Who needs ceiling fans?
My bedroom ceiling fan died this summer. I live in a hot climate, where a ceiling fan being out of commission is not a problem you can comfortably ignore. I took a chance on this fan just to have a quick replacement until I deal with the ceiling fan. Now we're in October and fixing the ceiling fan has been put off repeatedly because this thing is better than the ceiling fan in my opinon. Remote control is a nice extra. It will turn fan on or off, has a separate button that cycles through 3 fan speeds, and a timer button that seems to start a "turn off in 30 minutes" countdown--I can't say as I run it all night. You might want a button to control oscillation, but there's where you're out of luck. I'm assuming that this saves money, and honestly, it doesn't really matter to me -- who is switching between direct fan and oscillating fan over and over anyhow? Just having the remote and adjusting speed from bed is the best part. Noise. It isn't quiet even on lowest speed. If you watch TV at night in your bedroom, you are going to have to turn up the TV and/or turn down the fan most likely. Again, to me this is an easy compromise for live-preserving breezes. Assembly was pretty easy. Attaching the stand pieces together didn't really need instructions if you've ever put anything with a telescoping base together before, but there are instructions. You'll need to attach the fan blade and secure it with a nut, and you'll need to patiently work the front cover of the fan into place to keep fingers out of the spinning blade. This was the longest part of the build because it kept popping loose when I almost had it secured. Maybe I just wasn't good at it :-) It certainly wasn't annoying enough to detract from recommending the fan. All in all, it has outlived my intended use for it, and shows no issues. I've come to like it better than the ceiling fan, and the noise kinda fades into the background (I'm usually running on medium or low). If I ever fix the ceiling fan this will be a nice addition to the garage-workshop. If.

Great durable fan!
This is a great fan. It was easy to put together. It is lightweight but very sturdy. Love having the remote. I’ve had it for a year and use ii regularly, especially on hot nights, and it really cools the room. I wasn’t looking for a completely silent fan- It makes just the right amount of white noise but it is not true so you could easily have a conversation or watch TV without it interfering very durable and reliable and I recommend it highly!

3 things you should know
What I would've liked to known before buying: (To be fair all this info is probably readily available but I was in a hurry to buy a cheap fan so I wasn't thorough in reading about it.) 1. You CANNOT control the oscillating function (swinging motion) with the remote. You can only control this with a mechanical switch on the back of the fan. Luckily since the switch is mechanical you don't have to press it again every time you turn the fan on. 2. Most of the assembly is easy, but the last step is very difficult and you will NEED 2 people to finish it. The hardest part is putting the wire cover that goes over the blades. Basically the front piece of the fan that says Black & Decker. You're supposed to get the plastic (back piece) to cover the wire, which is such a tight squeeze. I didn't think it was possible... and it really wasn't just using our hands. We had to use a butter knife to get the plastic around the wire while another person holds the cover in place so it doesn't pop out on the other side... It was like fitting 20lbs of meat into a 5lb sausage casing. The front cover stays on with mostly tension. I personally did my best to get the front logo straight, but it turned out slightly slanted because of the struggle we had getting it in place... I would have to undo the tension to fix it, but it's not even slightly worth it... I'd rather paint over the logo than have to put the cover back on. 3. If you lose the remote you cannot control the fan speed. There is no button on the fan that controls speed. Just power and timer. Also keep in mind that every time you power the fan on it automatically starts at the highest speed. So if you do lose the remote it will be stuck on high speed. Would I still buy the fan knowing all this now? ABSOLUTELY. It was cheap and it's working great for what I need! The power is wonderful and it's keeping my room a lot cooler. It's really not noisy and I think it's because the blades are plastic. It's not silent, but I wouldn't say it's loud or anything. One thing that would bother a lot of people is the LED light on it. It is very bright, and will light up a small room that's in complete darkness. Definitely annoying if the blue light is pointed straight towards you... And I did see the review below that explains how to remove the actual light diodes, but it wasn't really worth the effort to me, and I am familiar with picking apart electronics. I did, however, end up using black nail polish to paint over each light, and it worked great for me. It needed two coats and the light doesn't shine through at all... AT ALL. So if you don't want to open the thing up you can cover the lights with paint, or get creative with something else. If I am being nit picky towards Black & Decker, and giving them a tip for the future: I wish the cord was attached at the base of the fan instead of the control panel. It hangs down from the back and doesn't touch the floor when away from the wall... It's ugly and depending on where you put the fan you might have to step over the cord... But again, it's cheap. It's working. It's all I needed! Hopefully it lasts a long time. Will update in the future if anything note-worthy comes up.

Got this fan on sale and would still pay full price for it. It's a great fan. The only minor complaints I have with the fan is the 1st speed is quite quick but for someone like my self who likes to be cooled, it's perfect. It's not extremely loud, you can see in my video, it does have some ambient noise to it. The remote is louder then the fan. But it's white noise at the end of the day. It was super easy to put together. A very good price for a fan, especially better then buying a cheap Walmart one with the terrible aluminum X frames. No tools required. Only thing I dislike is the rotation feature is a pull knob but that's what you get for a cheaper end fan. Only the fans that are 100+ will get you that fancy tech.

Works great, easy assembly, but was definitely not designed for bedrooms - the blue light is much too bright.

It's working great, though it's made by cheap looking plastic, thus it seemed wobbly but we never move it around anyways so it isn't really a problem. We just put it in one spot in our living room and it works perfectly well. I love that it's doing its job cooling our place, with remote control that is easy to change its speed. Assembly is easy, too.

I ordered and did not assemble for several weeks and think the return time period was over. 1) Assembly was straight forward UNTIL putting the front grill on. It took brute force and distorting shape to make it finally snap in. Just a bad design when you risk breaking it during assembly. 2) Electrical shock when adjusting direction. From the small loop of wire that goes from the post to the fan. There was a visible cut trough the jacket and into the 120VAC wire. Electrical shock was across my hand. I am an electrical eng, so repaired it properly. (easy fix for me vs hassle of returning) 3) When the fan is on the fans speed is changed when I use my standard cable company supplied TV remote control.
