Dose this work for kids and how long will they last

They seem durable, 5lbs was good enough for me. Depending on kids' size you can determine if 5lbs is good for them.

I’m a women with smaller hands. How big are the grips on these dumbbells?

Better a larger grip for better grip and wrist strength. Smaller grips do almost nothing for grip and wrist strength.

Can these hold up if they get constantly wet? Or will they hold up well if they are submerged under water?

Although I have not used them in water, they seem to be completely sealed in the vinyl. I do not believe any water could penetrate into the weight at all.

Do these have an odor?

No, the dumb bells have no odor.

Nice heavy exercise weights, comfortable vinyl coating

Nice quality set of weights (20lbs - grey). No problems so far with weights splitting the vinyl as sone others have apparently found. The vinyl gives the weight a more comfortable grip I feel so makes it better for doing more aerobic type of exercise. I'm a 6ft tall guy though so choose weight size accordingly of course. The 20lbs per dumbell set is quite heavy so would probably only be able to do a certain number of exercises with before exhaustion depending on fitness level of course. Shame some of the lighter weights are not as readily available here (at time of writing) as they make for good comfortable but heavy enough exercise weights I feel.
