ABUS Tightening Straps Lh Frame Lock Adaptor, Black

These tightening straps are simple and work exceptional. My only complaint is they should come with the lock (they also work great).

I agree with other reviewers that I wished the 4960 came standard with these adapter straps. Before biting the bullet and ordering them (I think they shipped from the UK), I first tried using some zip ties, then also tried small adjustable hose clamps. Sorta worked but I wasted a lot of time. Honestly nothing measures up to having the real deal. The metal straps are plastic coated so as not to mar your frame. Other reviewers had difficulty figuring out the instructions, but I personally thought they were very straightforward and were spot on. The screws are machined so you can insert the included Allen wrench and tighten the straps to the frame. Voila. The hardest part, honestly, was finding wire cutters with enough leverage to cleanly trim the metal straps.

The included nut and bolt were not very easy to attach, but I ended up easily attaching the screws included with the actual Abus cafe lock.

Take your time, think it through. It's fiddley to get the mount placement correct and placed in a way that centers your frame-lock on the frame in a satisfying way. I wound up eyeballing everything carefully and marking on the frame (with painters tape) before attaching the mounts. Have some one with general tinkering skills help you or at least maybe have a 3rd and fourth hand available.It may be more awkward, but these are metal straps, so also think hard about where you want the tails to point. I set up mine so they are between the frame and wheel, but it was more difficult to accomplish.That said, if you are careful to pull out any slack and really crank them down (on a metal frame), I have found them to provide a very secure mounting point with no rattling so i believe it is quite commuter friendly. Though I ride mostly road, the bike is a gravel-like commuters e-bike that I sometimes ride through alleys and there is no rattle then either. Still... not sure how these would work on full time gravel or with daily urban assault efforts over the long term.

I bought these adapter straps because my front fork doesn't have caliper mounts and I thought I could work around that. Not with these. There is no way to attach these that is tight enough to keep the lock in place. Even if you really tighten them down, the lock will slip and rub on your front wheel after the slightest vibration from riding. Use zip ties liberally or abandon your dream of having a front wheel lock if you don't have mounts.

Works perfectly and pretty easy to install. It is on the bike and very sturdy. I wish the there was a way to tuck the straps somewhere. I could cut them down, but then I would create a sharp edge and I won't be able to re-use this if I had to take them off.

They work, sort of, I was never really able to get to tighten up the lock in place. I ended up stabilizing the lock with wire ties. I thingkI'll just make a bracket that keeps it rigid. Love using the frame lock and cable on my e-bike though. Much easier than my old regular cable lock or u-lock. My wife's Electra Townie 8i e-bike came with one installed and I had to get one for my Trek Lift+. Not a replacement for a good chain in a higher crime area, but around our small town, more than adequate.

Great straps for securing the lock to my bike frame. I wish the option for purchase came with the lock so both would have arrived together… easy enough to put on, works well!

A simple solution to attaching the abus frame lock to a frame without rear lugs. Easily installed in 15 minutes or less and worked perfectly.
