Perfect for a little extra power.
I used this with a CarPlay adapter in my car. The adapter was working inconsistently so I used this adapter to plug it into the cars data power but pull supplemental power from the a ISB adapter in the 12v socket. Gives extra power from one port while maintaining data connectivity on the other.

Works great
Works great I have a mini PC with no CD drive and the USB rom drive I purchased does not have external power just a single USB A connection the ROM drive would constantly basically reset itself due to not enough power this cable allows me to plug an extra "phone charging brick" for steady power basically one end plugs to the PC one plugs to a power brick and the other the ROM drive plugs into everything works perfect now just make sure the end with the blue plugs into the PC

Perfect for a wireless Carplay adapter that needs constant power
I purchased this unit to add wireless Apple Carplay to my 2017 Nissan Maxima. The Maxima Carplay USB port doesn't supply a constant power source so the unit couldn't Bluetooth connect to my phone. Using this splitter I feed power to another USB port and then plug the USB 3.0 port into the car's Carplay USB port and it's flawless.

Used in my 2023 Kia to give it wireless Android Auto
I added a wireless dongle for AA to my otherwise plug in only Kia, one annoying habit it had though was that after I turned off the car (or if I walked by it, or touched it, or it thought about me....) the dongle kept power and tried to wrestle music from home or other things. So, using this separated the power feed to the USB next to the data that is only ever on if the car is actually running...... First world problem solved.

Ok, but not great
It does in fact allow for separate channels of power and data to be combined into a single steam at one usb port, but with no diodes in place the power also back feeds into other components, leaking power into things that don’t need the extra amperage.
