It is very easy to use no programming, just install the 9 volt battery and it's ready to use. I use it to detect for metal in wood I reclaim ,before I run it through the planner to resurface the wood. It also doesn't scan big and wide . That way it's not picking up metal outside of the wood it pin points pretty good I really like it. I would buy it again in a heart beat .

Great product

This metal detector is very good for an economy handheld model. You can tell when you hold it that it's built solid, and the original batteries still work. I've had it for about 4 years and I keep it in the trunk of my car so it gets knocked around quite a lot but it doesn't have a scratch yet. The entire ring opening detects metal the whole way around and covers a nice sized area. The only negative thing I can say about it is that the detection distance is annoyingly short at about 1/2". I'd say it's better for security use, but I've successfully used it to find nails in the driveway so that pretty much makes it worth it right there.

I salvage a lot of wood, Pallets and etc. This will show you all metal nails screws and etc. The Only thing it doesn't fine is metal shavings embedded in the wood surface. This will even pick up the little pieces of wire that holds many auto nailer nails together in the magazine. So great little unit in my opinion.

The GC-101H metal detector is as described size wise and not to bad for the price. It did come with a battery although the website said “not included”, be sure to remove it and peel off the plastic or your wand will not work. The sensitivity level is fair at best, certainly no High as indicated, you literally need to be 1-2 inches away before the sensor goes off making it a bit difficult to really detect anything further away than that which is disappointing. I bought this for my grandchildren to play with, we live on the beach but it’s not likely they will find anything buried in the sand so my son took a couple fists full of change and threw the coins in my yard so they could have a treasure hunt. Since they are only 3 and 5 they had no problem getting the detector close to the ground but as an adult not so easy. If you want to do any grown up detecting you probably should look for a stronger product. OK for the price.

Hand help nestle detector, you can never be to careful there day. A metal detector is so useful now. We have parties at our friends out all the time and the last time some one brought a gun so we decided to go with a metal detector. We tried the metal detector on a few thing and it work great! It come in just time time great packaging and and beeps when it goes off.

This hardly worked. Not for anything small enough to be of use to me. I wanted to be able to find nails and screws in wood and immediate area. It wouldn't detect anything under a box of nails. It has a "fine tuning" function hidden under a sticker, but the directions don't match the screw head type. I spent an hour trying to machine file my own screwdriver to make it work. It didn't. I went through a set of small machine screwdrivers, and none of them worked. Worthless for anything other than pretending to be "security".

I'm equipping a security team for a couple of gigs over the next couple of months and I'll have to supply them with metal detector wands. These are a GREAT alternative to the Garrets that are 6X the price (and made in the same factory in China), and I'll be purchasing about 20 of them. This is very simplistic technology so don't be fooled by the naysayers, these will do the job.

This really looks and works like the "wand" detector they show you on border customs services. Auto calibrate, light, sound and vibration indicators. Even a child can figure how to use it without instructions. Me, I use it to locate metal (nails and cramps) in lumber to prevent damage to my blades. For the price, you can't afford to not buy one. Pays for itself after just one detection.

I purchased this in order to find metal embedded in salvaged wood and it does it well. It allows me to save my saw blades. Would recommend for the casual woodworker. Does not work on non magnetic metals.

Needed to be calibrated. Had to open it up and adjust pot so it did not go off without metal detection. Works great now.

Decided to try this detector after seeing a more expensive one used in a youtube video. Just tried it on a pallet board and was amazed that it detected a a tiny piece of metal embedded a 1/4 inch under the wood surface. This piece of metal was not visible to the naked eye. Dug it out with a chisel and saved my brand new thickness planer blades. Will be using this before planing all my used lumber from now on. Has the solid feel of a quality made product. Highly recommend to anyone using recycled wood.

We use it almost everyday since we have event going on for the whole week. After using for a week, it just doesnt work anymore, the alert keep ringing all the time :(
