Excellent source of information on the Nabataeans
Excellent source of information on the Nabataeans, lays out an excellent history of the people while not getting bogged down in scholarly references, additional chapters offer very good analysis of aspects of the culture.

An interesting read but not academic
The writer is clearly enthusiastic about the subject matter and probably well read, but this is not an academic book or I suspect written by a scholar. The chronology jumps about and there is almost no source referencing. It is impossible to discern whether statements are speculation - I suspect most are not evidenced-based - and potentially incorrect. This throws doubt over much of what you are reading, which is exactly what you do not want in a history book.

Can't wait to delve into this
Haven't read the whole book, just the first few pages, but having watched all of dan gibsons photos and study his website, I can tell this will be a great book to explore the history of the Nabateans, not a civilization I ever thought about studying, since I didn't know they exist, but it will really be the arabian history to life.

Superb Scholarship
First class scholarship! Just what a scholarly book should look like. Gibson thoroughly knows his Nabateans. His arguments are strong and tightly woven. Have learned very much about these ancient and mysterious builders of Petra. Thank you so much, Dan Gibson!
