My husband is the cook in our family and I bought this book for him for Christmas so that he won't get so frustrated trying to come up with exotic and delicious meals. It arrived in the mail today and I snuck a look at it. I can't wait until Christmas!!!We used to have a Williams-Sonoma recipe CD that worked on an old iMac (long dead) and we also have a dessert cookbook. What I like about Williams-Sonoma cookbooks is that they have pretty pictures, easy instructions, and you can find the ingredients in a regular grocery store most of the time.Here's the deal in our family - although my husband is the cook, for the most part I pick the menu. And contrary to some serious cooks, I LOVE cookbooks with pretty pictures of what my delicious and exotic meal is supposed to look like when the chef is done cooking it; I'm a very visual person and cookbooks without pictures go unused in our house (the words tell me nothing; I need the pictures. People who cook probably can get past this minor detail).This book looks perfect. The pictures are beautiful, and I believe there is a picture for every single recipe, and it's THICK - I was surprised at how heavy it is. I can't comment on how easy the recipes are because I had to sneak, but the instructions appear to be short and to the point (but it doesn't matter because my husband can cook anything).Definitely a five star purchase!!

This is an amazing and beautiful cookbook. It definitely contains recipes inside in which some people may not consider "essential" to home cooking, although I think that depends on the person and the style/quality of cooking they enjoy to do. For example, some people may not consider tuna tartare or roasted lobster with tarragon butter essential to everyday home cooking, but I guess that depends on the individual and the type of home cooking they do. I have enjoyed making Williams Sonoma recipes for years and am never letdown by the quality of recipes found in each of their cookbooks. I would say that if you are in the market for a WS cookbook, to buy this one since it is so comprehensive and widespread. The recipes are easy to follow and always turn out fantastic!

great basic cookbook for budding foodies!
Just got this cookbook for my bridal shower last weekend, and so far we have made three recipes: the chicken with tomatoes and zucchini, the steamed salmon with charmoula (we used tilapia instead), and the banana bread. All were excellent and simple to make. There is a good mix of simple and relatively quick recipes for weeknights, and more involved dishes for weekends or when you have guests over. The book is beautiful, directions are easy to follow, and there is a diverse selection of recipes in all categories. A previous reviewer noted that this is not a basic "everyday" sort of cookbook; she is right - in a good way. No casseroles, cake mixes, canned cream of mushroom soup or any of that junk used as ingredients here; it's written for the WS customer who values interesting and quality food. I'm already planning for my next WS cookbook purchase!

Wonderful addition to my ever growing cookbook library
My cookbook library is growing to be a large library, so I am particular concerning any new additions because I just don't have the room. I bought this book and am glad that I did. It became one of my core cookbooks. The recipes that I've tried turned out great.

Nice series especially if purchased at discount.
I bought a bunch of these here on Amazon for a few dollars each for my daughters who expressed interest in learning how to entertain and cook for themselves and company, most of the books in the series are great for just this purpose, being a Disabled Veteran on a fixed income I really wouldn’t want to pay the full retail price and judging by the sheer abundance of used copies for next to nothing I am not the only one who didn’t.TLDR great when bought used recommended at a used price.

Great comprehensive cookbook for all skill levels
This is a dictionary of amazing recipes from around the world. Some are exotic, requiring ingredients you may need to order online but this book offers recipes that are not run of the mill.

This is a fabulous cookbook for the modern cook who enjoys entertaining a small group or a whole houseful of guests. The recipes are sophisticated yet approachable for the intermediate or advanced home chef.
