Great book to get started with drawing
This was recommended by an artist friend. It is indeed full of good information. I hope to become a better artist by following these techniques!

It's very helpful.
It shows a lot of different things on how to draw anything from humans, to everyday objects.

Accidentally bought 2, and glad I did!
I accidentally bought two of these books, and I am really glad I did. Of all the Christmas gifts I got for my kids, these books have gotten the most use. Both of my children love their books and can't seem to put them down. They have already drawn so many pictures, and they look great.

good basic drawing
Our grandson is using this to get back into drawing which he hasn't been doing for several years. He is 20 and has been away from home for college. I'm thrilled that he is returning to this talent he has.

Meh. Not what I was hoping for.
Edited: On further review, the chapter on how to draw a face is actually pretty good. My opinion on the rest of it is unchanged.I was looking for a book that covered the fundamentals of how to draw. By fundamentals I mean basic and universal techniques. I wanted a book that told me how to approach drawing. I expected with a chapter on how to see the outline of objects and how to refine that outline. I expected another chapter on perspective and how to achieve accurate perspective in my drawings. I wasn't looking for a college coarse or a deep analysis on drawing, just a good explanation of basic and fundamental concepts. This book does cover those things, sort of. The first seven pages cover materials, how to draw, how to draw circles, simple shapes, and the very basics of perspective. That's it, just seven pages with mostly illustrations and white space to cover everything. The next 120 pages have step-by-step illustrations of a variety of objects, and the last 20 or so pages are blank. The idea is for you learn how to draw by copying these illustrations. This is not a horrible approach and I'm sure that one would gain skills by following it. Through the entire book there is almost no text. There is also almost no discussion of how, or why. The whole book is basically just a bunch of illustrations. Each of the illustrations is accompanied by a note that says: Draw this.Again, it's not a horrible book, but it fell way, way below my expectations.
