what's the difference between a Japan import and an American amiibo?

As far as i can tell, nothing. I have both the American and the Import of the Bokoblin and the Guardian. Aside from the box being in Japanese, there is nothing different. It does not matter if you own the American or the Import, both register on the American Switch
