A good product at a reasonable price
The Generation whistle, also called a "tin whistle" or "penny whistle," is a good choice when putting together a set of whistles because these whistles are durable, tuned well, and are affordable. Each whistle comes in one key, and this one is made in the key of G. This is also what is known as a "high G" whistle. I had actually been looking for a low G whistle, which is more difficult to find, and is much more expensive. I like this high G whistle, but find it somewhat limiting because the sound of the second octave (played by forcing more air through the mouthpiece) is too shrill for my liking, while both octaves are pleasant sounding on a low G whistle. Because of its short length of only 9 inches, my fingers seem bunched too close together when upon the holes, and of course makes switching to it from a C or D whistle difficult to get used to. That's because your finger positions must be precise, and if misaligned even slightly then notes will not sound right, or sound at all. All in all, though, any one of the Generation whistles can be fun to play, and is also an excellent choice as a first instrument for a child, or even an adult.

VERY small tin whistle!
For all tin whistle players, this is VERY small. I guess it's the only way you could manufacture a "G" whistle, unless of course you went to a LOW-G. As far as the whistle itself goes I have no issues, in fact I'm impressed with the quality. I like the sound of the brass Generation whistles, but these are more solid and I find them very accurate in pitch. We mostly play D's of course, and an occasional C, and I like to have a few other keys including a LOW-D but I needed a G for a specific couple of songs which I thought would work well with these G-Major whistles. The one main thing to keep in mind is trying to accurately finger the notes since they're so close together on this whistle (tough getting used to this lol!). It's loud, bright, and clear, and the fipple seems as nice as any Generation whistle I have. It's not easy at all to find a lesser expensive tin whistle in High-G so it's a good thing this was made so well. For the price and the convenience--and the fact that it performs well--it's worth the 5-star rating.

This seller should indicate sized for children or small hands as this is not a traditional sized Tin Whistle. I've had mine recently stolen that were purchased some years ago now...FWIW!

Good whistle, good price
Always pleasant to play, great whistle to learn on. Plays in D and G (with cross fingering on C). Suitable for sessions and I've played it in performances. Their Bb whistle is excellent. If you loosen the head joint it has a little tuneability.
