The best everyday watch that's a joy to use and wear.
I always thought that G Shock watches looked big and chunky but on receipt of this 5000U solar watch, apart from being really light the time function was spot on so no more correcting for seconds lost or gained. The secondary functions like stop watch, time zones, daylight saving and darkness backlight all work perfectly. As with all G Shocks, there is no worries about extra protection during everyday use even after almost two of wearing, it still looks like new with its coated stainless steel case wrapped in durable polymar rubber.

Collectors Watch
If you are looking at this watch then you are probably a G shock collector ? What you are looking at is a much upgraded DW-5600 which at the moment you can get for around £50+. So what you get is a solid stainless steel core, atomic time keeping, solar charging, far higher quality bezel and strap, much improved module (far more functions). Basically this is a set and forget watch, always accurate time and date including "DST" (Day Light Saving) due to the atomic time keeping signal which is transmitted every night at around 1am in the UK. No battery changes every few years , just expose it to daylight/sunlight when you're not wearing it to keep it charged, should last approx 6months+ when fully charged with no exposure to light and power saving turned on. If you decide to get this watch then make sure you get the "U" version with the updated module. If you don't want to spend the £200+ this watch costs then go for the G Shock GW-M5610U which has exactly the same module and functions but without the quality upgrades as mentioned but still a great watch which sells for around the £100 mark. Which ever you decide you are getting a very good watch. Hope this review helps !EDIT:Forgot to mention that the GW-5000U also has a screw down mirrored case back with DLC (diamond like coating) and not the conventional 4 screws which you find on many other G-Shocks, so water resistance is also improved.EDIT 2: (15/3/25)12 months on and the watch is still working perfectly, I have not had to touch it once ! Battery always at 100%...Time always correct to the second.

One for the Enthusiasts.
If you've arrived on this page, you'll have searched specifically for this particular G-Shock, since it isn't readily available in the UK and has to be imported either from the EU or Japan. This one is often out of stock, too.To appreciate it fully and justify the price, I think that the history of the brand must be of interest, the construction and materials details and also nostalgia will be important. In other words, if you are not a G-Shock nerd, you may feel a bit disappointed because other very similar looking squares can be had for at least half the price, such as the GW-M5610u which has the same functionality.Personally, I'm delighted with this watch. Stainless steel core, screw down caseback, softer material for strap and bezel. The vast majority of people will not know why this watch is special; it's your own dirty little secret, and therein lies much of the appeal.

Exceptional Casio Men's Digital Quartz Watch: A Japanese Masterpiece
One standout feature is its multiband 6 technology, which automatically adjusts the local timezone if radio signals are available in your area. Additionally, it offers around 30 timezones worldwide, making setup a breeze. The tough solar feature is a game-changer, allowing the watch to harness solar power for charging. Moreover, the watch conserves battery life by turning off the digital screen during periods of non-use, easily reactivated with a simple shake. What's truly exceptional about this watch is that it's a Japanese exclusive, made in Japan with superb craftsmanship. It's rarely available outside of Japan, which adds to its allure.

Understated quality at its best
Understated quality at its best. The slightly thicker case gives it more presence and falls v nicely on the wrist. Radio controlled time works perfectly in our bedroom flat (London) and is a treat if you like / need v accurate time. As mentioned in other reviews, the strap is a real step up from my other Casios. Finally I enjoy looking after its solar charging - as if you nurtured a plant. (8 min of good solar light [50k lux] = 1 day of charge) (in case you wonder it takes 40 hours to go from dead to fully charged)

Great watch but difficulties with delivery
The watch itself is fine and seems slightly heavier than other models in the same Casio range. Product was shipped promptly by the seller but the package from Germany spent more than a week in UK customs. Afterwards the package sat on a shelf at Parceforce Worldwide for another week. Buying this watch from Germany incurs a hefty import tax. After paying the import tax Parcelforce still failed to deliver my package and I had to resort to collection of my package in person at the Parcelforce depot. Overall I'm happy with the purchase but the buying experience was somewhat tarnished by UK delivery service failures.

Uncomfortable strap
The web is full of reviews stating this is the "best bang for your buck" and "the only watch you will ever need" and so on. I suspect these are mostly from G Shock fanboys! I think the available functions are OK, although I'm not sure how many of them I would use. I liked the accuracy of the atomic clock sync.Reviews led me to believe the rubber-like strap is much more comfortable than the standard ones and maybe it is, but it's still not great. I also found the buttons really difficult to press and the alarm hardly audible. In my opinion it's overpriced and surrounded by lots of hype.
