Q: Do the RGB fan lights remain on while the drives are asleep?

Yes, unfortunately the fan and RGB light stay on, even though the hard drives themselves do turn off after the pc either goes to sleep or is shut down. This is annoying since it is the fan which is audible (and the light which is visible), not the hard drives, and so one needs to manually turn off the unit if you expect silence thereafter. Their support team confirmed with me that this is the case.

Q: If i hook this to a Intel Nuc could i use this for plex server storage?

Yes...but the only headache is the drives spin down when not in use & they take about 1 minute give or take to spin up when plex or any other app request a file from one of the drives...we are using the 5 drive bay model now

Q: Will this support 18tb drives? or is 16tb the max?

I have this with 18tb drives. It works fine.

Q: Do you know if there are no compatibility problems to use lg dvd / blu ray readers / writers? the new cabinets do not have space for blu ray players.

They are all standard slots and connections. Theoretically you should be able to use one of the slot for your blue ray/ dvd, and the rest 4 for RAID. But I have not tried.
