Look it up on youtube...I'm sorry I really don't know. It should be just the same as applying it on any surface. Youtube offers some wonderful videos.

Oil-based size is more permanent and can be left without a protective coating. However, it is harder to buy and ship and more difficult to use because the gilding time window is very narrow. Water-based is much easier to use and can be bought and shipped easily. However, you will need a coating to protect the gilding afterwards. If the item you are gilding is outdoors and exposed to the elements, go for an oil-based size. Otherwise, a water-based size would be easier.
