Motorcycle New Adult Books May Not Be My Thing
This review is of “Resisting the Biker-An Alpha Motorcycle Club Romance” by Cassie Alexandra. The Story: The book begins in Iowa, with a young woman named Jessica Winters being raped by a man. Later, the story abruptly pivots to another young woman named Adriana Nikolas, a college student who attends an Iowa university and lives with her mother, Vanda, who owns a jewelry store; Vanda’s husband and Adriana’s father was killed in a robbery at their former store in Florida by a member of a motorcycle gang. Which is why Vanda doesn’t want Adriana getting involved with the hero of the book, a guy named Trevor Larson, aka Raptor, Road Captain of the Gold Vipers MC. Adriana does get involved with Raptor, however, a decision which leads to happiness, heartache and a cliffhanger; their story is concluded in the following book “Surviving the Biker”.Positives: Despite the “outlaw” reputation, in many way the MC has some of the same values and beliefs as other parts of society do. Raptor crosses back and forth between being a bad boy and a good man.Negatives: The characters aren’t particularly deep or interesting. Adriana is whiny and immature; she is 21. Raptor, at times, also is immature and whiny. (Or maybe I have issues with New Adult books.) Even if there is a HEA in the next book, I really can’t see these two spending the rest of their lives together.Sex: A few scenes, which try to be hot but end up emotionally vacuous.Violence: In addition to Jessica’s rape in the prologue-her story comes in the third book “Fearing the Biker”-there are other scenes of violence. The “man” who raped her is killed. Adriana is nearly raped-Raptor threatens to unman and later punches the guy- and her best friend is raped and murdered in retaliation for the murder of Jessica’s rapist. The violence isn’t graphic, but it’s there.Note: The book also contains-from the synopsis: graphic themes, crude language and drug use.Bottom Line: Will I be reading the other books in the series? Not if I can help it. If “Resisting the Biker” weren’t free, I wouldn’t have read it.

Cliffhanger
The writing is sharp. The story is good. The characters are great for the most part. They all have voices although Adriana spent most of the time coming off as an indecisive obstinate teenager but it is what it is.But it's a series. And not one of those series where each book looks at a different character so each book can be read as a one shot. It's all about the main two characters apparently as this one ends on a cliffhanger. And I really really don't like those kinds of series especially when there's no end in sight and we're just on the first book. I hate being invested in two characters as they work through one drama after another in perpetuity. I'll probably pass on the rest of the books.

Too many characters introduced. A bit chaotic. The characters have no real appeal.
2.5 stars because it was alright but at the same time it was blah. I didn't warm to this book or the characters. It is a bit chaotic, too many introductions to too many characters. The men in this are also not your silent types, they have long rambling internal monologues and conversations which really detract from them as supposed bad-ass bikers. For example, when Raptor first talked to Adriana five minutes after meeting her, he basically drones on about his life story, why he has such fierce loyalty to his brothers, the usual spiel in these types of books etc. While I don't expected hot sexy scenes in books, I do in biker books, these are supposed to be hardened, testosterone fuelled men but the character's don't finally get together until the end of the book, 90% in. Then they jump straight into saying they love each other and are going to get married and have babies etc?! It i just really bad stuff! This book starts with Jessica, you don't get to hear from her again, which is really weird can I just say, to start a book on a character that has no further appearance in it, but what happens to Jessica sets up the introduction to the Gold Vipers MC. Jessica's step dad, Slammer, is the clubs prez, when she is attacked by a monster from rival club, Slammer wants retaliation for her. Here we are introduced to Adriana, the a whole chaotic host of other character's. Adriana, is a girl out with her bestfriend Krystal, to celebrate Krystal's birthday. Krystal is dating Tank, a member of Gold Vipers MC. The girls stop by the Gold Vipers club house, where Adriana is almost attacked by the man that attacked Jessica. Tank and Raptor step up to stop him. The story then gets a bit crazy, with introductions to all of Adriana's girl friends, a bunch of frat boys, the Judge, Adriana's mom, Krystal's mom and aunt etc I found myself skim reading much of this book, a lot of unnecessary text, events and people. The story and characters just didn't grip me. Sometimes less is more. Other issues also annoyed me like, would Tank really be inviting his girl to the club house when he knows the bad guys are going to be there. Would Adriana, who takes self defence classes, accept drinks from guys she doesn't know. Clearly she is aware of 'potential problems', if she's taking classes. Just too many issues for me.It is solidly written, although there is a name mix up that was slightly confusing at 23% and it also ends at just 56% and it ends on a cliff hangers. I will probably read the next book, because I'm hoping Jessica and the Judge have a book. Although these two characters never even meet in this book and the Judge is only in it for 5 minutes. I'd liked to know if they get together. But I didn't really think much of this book.

Cliffhanger 2.5 to 3 stars
I knew from the summary this book was about Adriana and Raptor but it also stated:'Meanwhile, Slammer, President of the Gold Vipers, seeks justice for the rape of his Old Lady's daughter'So when it started with Jessica I knew who she was and that she wasn't a major player but the first few pages were by far the strongest in the book and therefore the rest never lived up to the early potential.Adriana meets Raptor through her friend Krystal who is dating his 'brother' Tank, the attraction is instant but she fights it.Now I'm not going to get into a huge summary of this book, it was ok but I found Adriana annoying, but then it's probably hereditary because her mother was annoying as hell.As we know MC books vary, some are dark, dirty and disturbing like Madeleine Sheehan's this is at the other end of the scale it's definitely a much softer MC book, not that that's a bad thing variety is good but something seemed to be missing from this book it had loads of 'big' events but not really enough build-up or story holding them together.Editing and minor grammar mistakes don't usually bother me that much but when you also have the wrong names being used it gets confusing.I also wasn't expecting the cliffhanger and I wasn't happy that it went that way. Will I read the next book? I just might because I've checked ahead this time and the third book is about Jessica and The Judge my two favourite characters my far from is book.

Definitely worth a free read!
There was some better character development in this book than some I have read lately, could have been better though, I don't think the leading ladies character was strong enough. The plot was also more interesting then some of late. There was a bit more going on between the pages then between the sheets! The main characters didn't actually get it on until about 75% of the way through the book, the lady leaves him hanging for a while! Bit annoyed by the ending went from the couple flirting to professing their love in just a few chapters! I do want to keep reading though and have already paid for and downloaded the next book! So definitely worth a free read!

Meh
This book has potential. The plot sounded good to me, and I was fully in it for the first chapter. It was all downhill after that tbh. The editing really is quite bad, and needs to be looked at. The characters weren't well developed, and lacked depth.
