Everything The Foodie Boater Needs
This book was exactly what I needed as a new boat owner. If you want to live on more than peanut butter sandwiches and canned soups out at sea, this book is for you.

Love this book
All the recipes are practical. The way they are described, it's as if she is right there beside you having conversation. Love it!!

The cornerstone of my boat's cooking and provisioning library!
If you are a fan of theboatgalley.com or The Boat Galley on Facebook as I am, you may already know something about Carolyn Shearlock's expertise. She is a fine resource as I study and prepare for full-time cruising, and I appreciate her advice greatly.Web resources are great, but this book is now the foundation for my boat's library. As every boater knows, provisioning and on-board cooking is a highly personal matter. That said, guidance is important. Learning from others saves time and frustration and these authors know their stuff! Here's what I like about the book:* Two for one. Carolyn has joined up with Jan Irons and often they provide two perspectives on a particular issue or recipe.* Readability. I find the book an interesting read, not just a recipe book.* Alternative choices. Various methods or ingredients are suggested. This is important when sometimes "making do" is the order of the day on a boat.* Well organized. Chapter title on page edges makes recipes and topics easy to find.* Quantity. Enough recipes and essential tips to serve as the foundational cookbook in my library.* Flavor. Carolyn and Jan provide nutritious recipes that work well aboard, but more importantly they taste delicious. Try the Split Pea Soup in a Thermos. Yum.What I do not like:Hard to say.... I have not finished reading it yet, but I am very pleased so far and do not expect to feel differently later. I did have to squeeze in some notes because there was no blank pages at the back of the book. Seems like a pretty small issue...I recommend this great cookbook for all boating cooks. Perfect for campers too!

Great book, time for an update
The recipes are not the main attraction, at least for me. The first few chapters of information are gold, and something that every cruiser or RVer should read before setting out.It would be great to have an updated version of this book, as it is starting to feel dated -- for instance, everything about pressure cooking assumes you're using a stovetop version rather than an Instant Pot or similar electronic model. The recipe section could also use modernization. So. Much. Meat. At the time this was written there was far less awareness about plant-based diets, and raw meat in a tiny RV or boat galley where you do not have quick access to trash disposal.... just no.Even so, this book is still excellent and essential for full-time or part-time nomads.

Superb ideas for boat life
This book makes provisioning so easy and gives awesome ideas. I have not taken the cooking chore on while living on land but now living on boat, I took on that role. This book is very easy to follow and makes cooking enjoyable. It is good for boat life as well as RV life

VENDOR CHARGES SHIPPING FOR RETURNS
The Boat Galley Cookbook arrived in good shape but it was not the content I was expecting. This is a basic general cookbook for everyday cooking, nothing specific for small cooking spaces or storage.Since the cookbook was not what I expected, I sent it back and received only a fraction of the purchase price (+tax) . I was originally charged $21.19 for the item ($19.65 + tax) and refunded only $7.83. The vendor apparently charges shipping for returns, which I was not aware of. This is the first time I have been charged for returning an Amazon purchase. Be aware that this vendor charges you a lot to return their items!

Useful in RV kitchens too!
I full-time in a tiny RV with a tiny kitchen. This book has been a lifesaver. It provides a bunch of recipes, but that's just the beginning. It also helps me make the best use of VERY limited pantry and refrigerator space, keeps my kitchen lean and mean in terms of equipment, and helps me conserve fuel and water while boondocking. It's so great that it's the ONLY cookbook I took on the RV with me when I moved in, and I've used it constantly since. Highly recommended!

Cookbook is too basic
I am so dissatisfied with this book. Recipes are not only old school ( lots of cream of soups) but a lot of them have so many ingredients to them. Who is going to have the space to stock 20 spices or multiple vinegars? A lot of the recipes are not very imaginative either. Wish there was a section on things you can prep ahead or prefreezing things. And I guess that long haulers do bake, but was a weekend or shorter term cruiser I wouldn’t go to that mess or trouble. For someone who has little experience I guess this book of family recipes might be a handy reference but too basic for most. And a lot of the recipes just don’t sound that good! And really, do we need recipes that tell us how to fry or boil an egg??

Good book, poor pagination
The book itself is great, but really disappointed with the Kindle version. A lot of recipes have a footnote - which doesn't appear on the same page but on a separate page for each footnote at the end of each section. Surely for £17 Amazon could have done a better more diligent job than that? Any chance of re-cutting and an update?

Is this a cookbook for four year olds????
By the time you get to own a boat, I would hope you know how to make a lettuce salad!!! Disgusted. Plus tiny writing and no pictures. Humph

Good present for someone that plans to live on their boat
I bought it for a gift but got hooked on the the first few pages. The person I got it for loved it. That's what counts. Gave good advice as to what to stalk up on if going in a long journey.
