My two and four year old both love the LUK controller. You do need the bambinoLUK books to go along with it, as this isn't a stand alone manipulative. Check out thinktonight for the entire selection of books, as Amazon doesnt have all of them. My 2 year old is pretty standard in his development and he is able to do the activities with my help. It's a great way for him to feel like he's "doing school" and start learning some independence. My four year old is fairly advanced for her age, and while the books are a bit young for her, she still loves to do the activities. I'm thinking of getting her the miniLUK as she loves the setup and she's able to do it completely on her own.The controller is very easy to setup. After helping your child the first few times, you'll notice that they pick it up fairly quickly. First you lay one of the books completely flat (horizontally) and place the open controller on top of the book. You place the tiles on the top portion of the board according to the tile that is listed on the corner of each picture. There is a picture for each open space on the board. The child lifts one of the tiles and finds the matching picture on the bottom of the controller. The matching picture can be an exact match, a color match, a number match, etc. It's all based on which book you choose. There is an example shown along the side of the book, so once the child gets enough practice they should be able to look at the example and know eaxctly what to do (there are no written directions for them to read). Once the child places all of the tiles correctly, they close the controller and flip it over. There is a polka dotted pattern on the back of the tiles and if they did the exercise correctly the polka dot pattern will match up to the answer solution listed on the page. My 2 year old definitely hasnt figured this out on his own, but it's great self correction tool for when he is older.I'm thoroughly impressed with the capabilities and quality of this product. The illustrations in the book leave a bit to be desired, but not enough for me to not want to continue to purchase books and look into the miniLuk which is for slightly older students. This toy and the books that go along with it are made in Germany so some of the pictures wouldnt make sense to younger children and need explaination, but I find that it's a great way to introduce my children to new things and different cultures.

This is a great product. Even my 2yr old can move the pieces easily. Just wish the book would attach to the puzzle pad to keep it from slipping around.
