Are they lightweight at all?

No, I wouldn't consider these shoes lightweight. These shoes are flat on the bottom, don't pick up dirt, and are easy to wipe off. I would consider these boxing-type shoes. But they are fine for casual wear too. If you really need lightweight tennis shoes, I highly suggest looking into a pair of Puma's.

I wear 7.5 normally. Will the 8 big in size?

I hope this helps. Ordered an 11 and usually wear an 11. They weren’t tight. Fit well with a little room. So another half size would be additional space so might feel too big. I think if you wear an 11 and that is tight the half size won’t be as big of a deal.
