New to DVD! Digitally remastered Doctor Who classic The Tenth Planet! (NOT FINAL) The TARDIS arrives in December 1986 at a South Pole Space Tracking station where the personnel, under the command of General Cutler, are engaged in trying to talk down a manned space capsule that has got into difficulty. The Doctor realizes that the problem stems from the gravitational pull of another planet that has entered the solar system and is now heading for Earth. His words are borne out when the base is invaded by a force of alien Cybermen. The Cybermen's world, Mondas, is draining energy from Earth - once its 'twin planet' - and the situation will soon become critical.

Review of Doctor Who's the tenth planet
I got to be honest for a long time in my life I was never a fan of the black and white Doctor Who's from Bill Hartnell to Patrick troughton years I was a Tom Baker Jon Pertwee Doctor Who fan I grew up watching that on my local PBS station but now that a lot of these shows have come out on DVD I have a new appreciation for the early Doctor Who's just how really good they are which is what makes it so sad that many of them are missing or lost I can only hope that maybe in some Warehouse somewhere more these episodes can be found because these are really good shows I've liked the fact that they've animated some of the early stories one can hope that maybe Marco Polo one of the real Classics from the Hartnell years will be animated and released on DVD. The tenth planet is William Hartnell Swan Song the four-part story introduces us for the first time to the Cybermen the collapse an illness the doctor suffers in episode 3 actually happened in real life Bill Hartnell became terribly ill during the making of his final story and had collapsed on the set the one in the show is done by a stuntman it caused them to dramatically at the last minute change everything most of Bill hartnell's lines were given to his companions while he recovered there was a brief moment when they wondered whether he'll be able to be ready for the final episode which was rather important since he had to regenerate in to Patrick troughton but despite the fact that he was still ill he did manage to finish episode 4 when we look at the Cybermen in this story compared to the modern-day Doctor Who to most people they would look corny but if you put yourself back in those days they actually look rather scary and haunting I don't want to ruin the story I'll have you watched that and enjoy it there's quite a bit of extra features here as there is in most of the classic Doctor Who DVD releases this is obviously a very important story in the history of classic Doctor Who I highly recommended it

Hardcore Dr. Who fans will need to see this one.
Any hardcore Dr. Who fan will want to see this episode. It is the last William Hartnell performance and the first appearance of the cybermen. Hartnell is great, though the Doctor doesn't do much in this story except wait for the aliens to self-destruct. As for the cybermen, this was their first appearance, and they look really silly, especially when they "deflate" at the end. Still, you have to start somewhere. As for the other performances, most were fine except for the crazy American cowboy general commander that even Captain Bligh would have advised to "mellow out". As for the animated episodes, well, you have to do what you have to do. The soundtrack exists but not the film, so, if you want to watch it, you have to put up with the hokey animation. I'm just disappointed that the transformation to the second doctor is also animated, as this film sequence exists, If you want to see this episode, you'll have to get it here, as it is not included in the "retro" channel's repertoire

I wish there were more animation for the lost episodes
It was a missing piece for a Doctor who fan. The first regeneration is a must see. Though I know in my heart there is a print out there somewhere in some country. If the destroyed footage of Friday the 13th part 2 was found, there is hope for doctor who! I just wish they would find the second doctors first episode. I so fascinated to see Patrick's first reaction after regeneration. The second doctor is my favorite.

Great replacement for the missing classic Doctor Who episode
I was really happy to find that this was available, as I didn't expect to ever see this missing classic story, which introduces the Cybermen to Doctor Who audiences. I had read the novelization, and the producers of this episode have recreated the story nicely with the animation done in a fashion similar to that in Power of the Daleks. Parts are live action, and parts are animated, but the story has been restored to a very enjoyable show.

Extremely happy I did
Had to purchase this one because of the upcoming 2017 Christmas Episode of Doctor Who. Since it's a kind of cross over into this "classic" first Doctor story. It was not an episode I was familiar with, and especially since the missing episode was restored in animation I felt I should familiarise myself with it before the Christmas Episode airs. Extremely happy I did. Very happy to have it in my "Who" collection! A must for any fan of this iconic series. ๐๐๐๐๐

Best Cybermen in Doctor Who
An excellent finale to the first Doctor's tenure. Even with tin-can suits and masks that look like balaclavas, the casual and unconcerned attitude the Cybermen demonstrate toward life seems to me more evil than the aggressive Cybermen in later episodes (even in the new series). These Cybermen do not make any effort to act menacing; they simply act because they have a plan and remain aloof of any emotions raised by their actions. The idea of using animation to replace the missing footage was a master stroke, though I prefer to watch the final regeneration from the VHS reconstruction. This was brilliantly executed.

Fantastic story, fantastic Doctor, fantastic beginnings and endings.
Brilliant story, it was always one of my favourites and it was nice to see the included animated episode for the missing (currently) 4th episode of the serial. I think this iteration of the (real) Cybermen is probably my favourite iteration; they are so creepy and disturbing and in many regards this is due to their more human-like appearance. When paired up with the 5th Doctor story Spare Parts their origins even become all the more tragic. I recommend this story to any fan of the series and it arrived in pristine shape, I couldn't complain what-so-ever.

Great classic
This story is the introduction to the cybermen. The soundtrack is great and really sets a great feel to the show. It's nice they were able to animate the missing episode.
