Yes. The recipe called for Thai Basil, fresh, and this paste was a great substitute. Made the curry for family and everyone was pleased with the results. Very tasteful results.

Not what I’ve expected, I thought this would be great to make kra pao, but it’s not

I have a very hard time finding fresh Thai Holy Basil so I tried this as an alternative. It is very good! It’s described as “punchy” and it is but not overwhelming. The basil is the dominant flavor, which is perfect. I would add garlic anyway so this gives me the ability to add more fresh garlic to taste. Draw backs are that the product is a bit grainy and it’s suggested you use it within 30 days once opened.

Read the Ingredient section. Holy Basil and Sweet Basil are NOT Thai Basil. Thai Basil is robust with Licorice and Spice notes. I should have read the ingredients. Don't believe me? Consult AI. If you want Thai Basil go to your Asian market and buy it fresh grown or grow your own. Don't get lazy like I did and assume you're being dealt with honestly.

Product name made me think it would taste like Thai basil but there is no actual Thai basil in the ingredients. It contains holy basil, which I learned after buying, is very bitter. I don't recommend this product. UPDATE January 2022: Although the product was not to my personal liking, I was very impressed with the professionalism of Mekhala's customer service. I recently came across the tiny THANK YOU SO MUCH card sent with my original order and decided to email them directly with my concerns (as the item showed on Amazon as non returnable). They were very quick to respond and have already refunded my order. Good (and prompt) service is hard to come by these days and so very much appreciated by customers. **For the wonderful customer service that I received, I am changing my review to 5 stars.

The jar was smaller than expected. I know it shows you the ounces but I was expecting like a small jam jar… instead it’s slightly bigger than a spice jar. Which would still be okay if the product itself was as good as I hoped, but there is nothing special about the flavor. It tasted like Italian Basil pesto, not even a hint of Thai flavor. I will use it since I have it…. It doesn’t taste bad at all, just not what I wanted or expected. I won’t buy again especially for the price.
