Actually improves the fingerprint reader!
Edit/update:It actually IMPROVES the success rate of the fingerprint reader. Perhaps it's the way it bends light but I'mhave a 100% or near 100% success rate. Highly recommended. Spend 10 bucks and give this a try before returning your pixel 7 due to the subpar fingerprint reader.____________________This is 5 stars assuming you're decent at wet installing a screen protector. All the good below apply.Note the following for the bad.IQ Shield reached out and informed me that you can make extra solution by using 1 drop of dish soap and 3/4 of the bottle of spray if you need to make more.If you have dust, use light strokes to coax the grain out. Otherwise if there's no enough water, you will end up smashing/embedding the dust into the protector.Beyond being wet, I found that holding the phone at an angle while squeegeeing down the direction you want the grain of dust to exit helps immensely.Lifting a corner, spraying a bit in then squeegeeing it out helps somewhat.____________Original review belowI had originally ordered some IQ shield protectors for my galaxy watch. Color me impressed as it is very durable, actually does self heal and was easy enough to install. As I also dug the texture, I went ahead and ripped off my current pixel 7 screen protector and installed this product..The good:1. The fingerprint scanner works perfectly well with the protector on. Almost as if it did not have a screen protector on at all. The setting for increased sensitivity for screen protectors didn't need to be enabled either. Color me impressed2. Self healing from minor scratches. It's thick and rubbery. A few minor scratches during the install process as I attempted to move the protector, healed just fine. I ended up wasting the first protector. After pulling it from my screen I tried to poke through it with my finger and with a pen. Went through eventually but didn't pierce it right away. The badThe install process. That turned what would have been a 5 star review into a 1 star. Yes I watched the videos. Yes I followed it to a tee. Yes I installed it in a steamy room, after a shower.1. There is a spray that you spray all over your fingers, your phone's screen and the protector to perform the wet install required. You will run out and run out fast if you need to position, re-position and re-reposition. I ended up using dawn soap + water as a substitute but that should at least be noted that it could be a replacement medium. I ended up using what came with this pack of screen protectors and what I had from my IQ shield protectors from my watch.2. It is impossible to remove dust after it has stuck to the adhesive side of the protector. It will embed itself and you will not be able to wash, pick or otherwise remove it. As I had to position, reposition and ration the spray during the 2nd attempt, due to dust, shifting, etc the process just got worse and worse.3. Specks of dust may not show/appear during the installation and curing process. You will see them after the protector has sealed itself to the screen.4. You can squeegee and press on the film at the end of the install and it will still shift a bit during the curing process despite all the liquid being removed.Right now my pixel has the 2nd of the two included protectors still installed. A minute shift during curing when the protector appeared to be bonded, now causes my thumb to catch the edge of the protector when I swipe right.Invisible dust specks appeared (or they may be bubbles that are trapped) and cannot be removed.Bit of an orange peel effect once cured.

Not sure there's better than this
Not sure why people say this is hard to install, watch the video and you'll see how to do it. Just move it around until it's in the correct position and let it dry. I had apparently bought the original version and before I even received my phone the company e-mailed me that they had a newer version after I had already received the first version. They told me that they had already shipped me the new version with nothing else to do, which I received a couple days later, and still a week prior to me receiving the phone from Google. It is not glass, but instead a film, much like the Zagg ones I used to get. It completely covers the screen including where the screen bends down and my case had no problems going over it. It seems to be a nice, clear protective screen protector which is obviously what I needed. The negatives: It's not as smooth as glass and it does smudge during usage, but is only really noticeable when my screen is turned off.The positives: It's very cheap, is very clear, is easy to install (and they send two) and it's been durable during my first two weeks of usage with no peeling up from the phone, and on top of that awesome customer service in sending me the new screens after they improved upon the original (who ever does that? No demand for extra charge or even returning the original ones they sent). Now, there may or may not be a better screen protector currently out there, but I see no reason to take off this one as it seems almost perfect to me.

Absolutely Perfect for Overall Usability, Awkward Hand Feel
EDIT: So I had to switch cases, as my original Google case started to wear down. After switching, I noticed my case didn't wrap around the phone as much as my previous one, and when I went to swipe from the edge of the screen to go back to a previous task, I could feel the sharp edges of the film protector. It's quite annoying, annoying enough for me to want to look at other options for either a screen protector or another case.I had what so many other Pixel 6a users had issues with when it came to tempered glass screen protectors...a shotty on and off again fingerprint reader experience. After reading reviews on this product, with some folks claiming their fingerprint sensor improved remarkably with this on, I had to try it. And these folks aren't wrong, I have not had any issues with the sensor and any failed attempts I had were 100% user error (i.e. not having my finger on the sensor correctly).Though some may be intimidated by the less common installation method that film protectors force users to undergo, I would say it was relatively easy to do despite it being my first ever time using film. Just be patient, it shouldn't take long, just make sure you make any placement corrections right away before you commit to squeegeeing the protector fully. With a case on, the protector does not feel sharp at the edges at all and makes the gesture navigation experience pretty seamless. The only real misgiving I have is in regards to the overall feel of the protector. Most people know what it feels like to touch a screen (whether on a TV, monitor, phone, etc.) that has that protective film over it that one would usually remove before use. It feels like having a thicker version of that film on your phone at all times, leading to a mostly smooth experience with a bit of awkward finger drag on occasion, especially when pressing down a bit harder on the screen. I would say the trade offs are worth dealing with this issue, though I really just wish it had a feel more like smooth tempered glass does.I work outside quite a bit with my phone, as I submit reports with it and take tons of pictures for my security guard job. I drop my phone alot (especially since my case tends to be very slippery, even more so with gloves during the colder days) and I have yet to run into any screen cracking, chipping, or scratching. All in all, this is probably the only screen protector you should buy if you have a Pixel 6a. The tempered glass experience, no matter what you buy, is absolutely horrible for this phone and this tends to check most boxes needed in a protector. I'll definitely invest in this for future Pixel iterations for as long as the fingerprint sensor issue is prevalent.

The worst
I've tried most pixel 8 screen protectors on amazon. The new spigen without the black border is your best option. This on the other hand is easily the worst.
