I use it constantly for canning so I don't occupy my kitchen stove. It's extremely sturdy and well built. Because of the cast iron it does take a little time heating up but it's worth every second. I can all year long, there's always something you can preserve. I ordered one unit and used it for a few months and was so pleased I got a second one. I would seriously recommend this product to anyone that is serious about canning or wants a dependable second source for cooking.

What a glass-top stove saver! I use this hot plate twice a week for dipping and frying tortillas. It heats up quickly and keeps the hot oil from marring my glass stove top. I've used this hot plate for just under a year, and it's one of the few kitchen items I will be taking with me when I move.

I purchased this hot plate after updating my stove to a glass top and being worried about putting a pressure canner on top of it. I will say, I was hesitant to spend the money on Cadco because it was a bit expensive. However, I ADORE how it has changed my canning. I have a smaller space to can and moving my pressure canner to a hot plate has given me more space. I put a towel under it and it sits to the left of my stove. I have the things I am canning on the right of my stove top and work on the left side of my stove top. It keeps the heat and saves me so much space. I highly recommend!

I purchased this because we got an induction cooktop which i love...but which also will not work with my presto canner. First, I followed instructions that said to burn off the fumes from the cure on the burner....done. Then the next thing I did was whip out my presto. IT WORKS BEAUTIFULLY! Granted...it's a tad slower...but just a tad. No biggy at all. It was also easy to regulate. I had no problem getting the burner set to where the weighted pressure gauge gently rocked...and it stayed that way. I am SO GLAD I got this burner rather than the cheaper. I debated for over a week about it thinking that the cheaper burner would be just fine but knew instinctively that to can...you need a more substantial burner that can take the prolonged heat and the added weight of a full canner. I was right and this is the one that did the job perfectly.

I needed a hot plate for a pressure cooker and saw reviews were good for this product. I have to agree. I've used it for a week now daily for a pressure cooker and it has done well. Once it reaches 15psi you need to turn it down a bit at a time before it settles there but that's the only negative. Heats up just as quick as my stove. Very sturdy.

I love the versatility of the hot plate. I love to cook meals on it, and will use it, probably outside, to pressure can with my big American Pressure cooker. It is easy to keep the temperature you want/need, as it has a patented thermostat. I have not owned it very long but hope it has a long life! Addendum: my only wish, is that the plate was larger. When I make pancakes, the outer part of pancake does not cook well, and I burn the center if I leave it in cast iron too long in order to cooker the outer part. I will make the pancakes smaller on my cast iron griddle and that will fix the problem.

Based on the reviews on the pcr-s1 product page and this product page, it’s hit or miss. The models are supposed to be the same just that Broil King was bought by Cadco. Upon opening the package I heard metal rattling and the knob just spins. I returned the product because I can’t risk a fire.

Ive had this product almost 6 months. It has worked great! I use it for canning and it keeps a consistent heat! When it is canning season it's on, a lot! Have had zero issues! Very pleased with this purchase! It is worth spending the money on a durable hot plate! Edit to add: Still 5 stars! It has been almost 3 years since I purchased this hot plate and she is still kicking great! I ended up even buying another one exactly the same! So, I can run 2 pc's at once! Incredibly happy with these!

The price is very high

I bought this because I wasn't sure my glass top at my last place could handle my all American 25qt pressure canner. It could. So it sat till our latest move and the element on my new stove is way too tiny for me to risk using my canner on it. Pulled this hot plate out and ran a test run and I was able to PC with my big ol' canner! It takes longer to come up to pressure but it holds fine. It does have a smell though. Idk if there was a film on the element but I had to scrub the bottom of my canner after the first use to remove it. Would love if there was an option with a larger element. It's still too small but I made it work.

Arrived with parts dislodged inside the case, the element takes forever to heat a canning pot which was the purpose and could not bring the water to boil. Purchased an induction for a third of the price and works fantastic, I most certainly would not recommend this element.

Overall, I expected more quality for the price of this unit. The temperature dial feels very cheap and poorly manufactured.
