NAS speciation

Bought two. They operate OK but two of these in my NAS are surprisingly and disappointingly noisy.

1 HD i is making loud noise and the other one only detects 1.8 tera instead of 8tera . Box

I ordered five of these drives to fit into a new NAS that I was building. It all went together with no trouble except that one of the five drives reported bad blocks. A few thousand of them, to be precise. I had to order a separate replacement to get the project finished but I tried to get this drive sorted while I was doing that. Tried a complete wipe using my old server but on completion the bad blocks persisted which led me to believe that the blocks in question were hard errors. I tried to return the drive in question but Amazon's return system insists that I return all five drives. I may have to fall back on the Toshiba 3 year warranty as a result. Additional: Tried to submit a warranty claim but the drive didn't appear in the claim form so am now trying to get a response from the warranty folk as to what the h*ll is going on. This is not going well.

I've had good results from Toshiba NAS drives and have bought quite a few of them in the past. I was slightly annoyed that this has a different number of sectors to a prior purchase of an N300 6TB. The difference was small but it really complicated my RAID rebuild.

Failed to mount so sent back for refund. Can’t fault the return process.

Got the drive and returned it. Warranty was invalid in the UK.

Da diese HDD über Amazon US. im vergleich zu anderen Hersteller sehr sehr günstig war, habe ich sie mal bestellt. Bei der sehr langen angegebenen Liferzeit wurde ich jetzt 2x angenehm überrascht und die HDD wurde wesentlich schneller geliefert. Noch mehr wurde ich von den Qualität überrascht. Die HDD ist sehr leise und meine NAS gibt mir eine sehr schelle Lesezeit von 240 MB/sec. Das war sicher nicht die letzte Toshiba HDD,die ich gekauft habe. Auf die Haltbarkeit bin ich noch gespannt, aber schlechter als bei WD Festplatten kann die hier nicht sein.

I have an Airport Time Capsule which had a Seagate 3TB drive, it was working good, but it was already full and there have been reports that those drives have a manufacturing defect that could make it unusable anytime without warning. So although Airport Time Capsule is not a NAS per se, I wanted to buy a NAS drive because I have the Time Capsule plugged in 24/7. In MY use case, with the Time Capsule, I had a little issue that when I plugged in the TC and didn’t accessed the drive immediately it went to sleep and the TC would just crash; that is until I unplugged it and plugged it back AND just accessed the drive, that way the drive and TC would just function properly and reliably 24/7. That worried me at first, but when I tried this drive in an enclosure plugged to a computer it functions perfectly, it spins down, sleeps and wakes correctly, ALWAYS. So, why am I giving it five stars? Because although in my use case it has that little inconvenience it isn’t the N300’s fault, it’s because of the way the TC handles drives in general. In any other use case it works perfectly.

Great value for a 6TB drive and very solid performance.
