Fang Xiang Liao Fa: Essential Oil Analogues of TCM Herbal Formulas

Excellent Reference for Chinese Herbalists/Acupuncture
This is a specialized book for those familiar with Essential Oils, Chinese herbal formulas, and acupressure/acupuncture. If that's you, then it provides excellent information on categorizing essential oils into materia medica language such as Clear Damp, Nourish Blood, Release the Exterior, etc. There is a large section containing many common herbal formulas and suggestions for applying specific essential oils to several acupoints as a way of using these to achieve the same or similar results as ingesting the herbal formula would give. We are adding this to our library at Alaska Institute of Oriental Medicine, Acupuncture & Massage Therapy.

most treasured aromatherapy book
This book on aromatherapy isn't on a reading list for aromatherapist, but I am glad I read the reviews, take a chance and bought this book. I am a beginner in aromatherapy and also a believer of TCM. I was overjoyed when I opened the pages for the first time and found so much information about carrier oil and a long of essential oil and their corresponding properties with relation to TCM.This is my most treasured aromatherapy book.

Translates TCM herbal formulas into EOs!
This book is exactly what I hoped for. It specifically cross references chinese herbal formulas for essential oil counterparts. It's translating for me. This book will not be helpful to you if you are not already familiar with TCM diagnosis theory. For example, you already need to know that someone needs to nourish yin in order to look up which EOs to use to achieve that. If you know that part, then you'll love this book.

Fantastic reference
If you've ever attended a Jeffrey Yuen seminar (if you haven't, I highly recommend it!) about this topic, you will really appreciate this well-organized book. It's excellent for needleless practitioners.I also really appreciated the authors' open tone. They encourage experimentation and did not try to set themselves up as a sole authority.

Essential oil analogues of tcm herbal formulas
I am so happy someone came out with essential oil analogues to the Tcm formulas because the use of needles especially with kids are not always practical and with all the meds that people are on, potential drug interactions and none compliance of patients using formulas, this is a nice alternative treatment which I think people will be more open to trying.

An Indispensable Reference in my Clinic
I love this book and have gotten a lot of use out of it. I've enjoyed adapting my own analogues based on what oils I have available, and have used the techniques detailed here on both myself and my patients. I've also experimented with combining the use of essential oils with acupressure for typically painful points on the feet and hands, and my patients love it! I think it should be said, however, that this book is really more of a collection of lists than a readable handbook. Personally, I would like to hear more commentary on the authors' application of these formulas in the clinic - what worked, what didn't, whether some oils work better than others in certain situations, etc. There's a lot of information here but it's about as dry as it gets.

Love it!
I truly love this book. Once I know what formula I would use on a patient, I can quickly find an essential oil to add to treatment. Great info.

Empfehlenswert
Bin total begeistert. Sehr gut strukturiertes, knapp gefasstes Buch. Übersichtlich und trotzdem alles drin. Ein Buch für die Praxis. Gute Kenntnisse der TCM-Syndromlehre werden vorausgesetzt.

I love this book
I love this book. I am a TCM practitioner and aromatherapist. I have not read the book throughout but at a glance, it answers a lot of questions for me and my practice. I agree with other reviewers that it would be more useful if you have a TCM/aromatherapy background and if there was more commentary especially for those with no TCM knowledge. However, I am familiar with the work of Gabriel Mojay, a leader in the fields of TCM and aromatherapy, who provided my first introduction to the use of essential oils from a TCM perspective. He authored a book many years ago on the energetics of essential oils and also ran a diploma course on the same subject. I have been looking for a book like this for some time. It is worth buying if you are keen to integrate aromatherapy and TCM into your treatment plan. Well done to the authors.
