Got these for a VBS craft, for grades 4-6. I liked the assortment of colors, although some shades were very similar. The separate trays came in handy since we had over a dozen kids doing chalk art; I reorganized them so each tray had an almost even amount of the colors. This was my first experience with soft pastels. They were vibrant on textured black cardstock. There was some dust but nothing substantial. If you're familiar with art chalk, you know that it gets dust on your hands, your canvas will pick up any dust, it may be hard to achieve high quality art unless you're careful. For our purposes, the kids enjoyed making the Northern Lights and were happy with their work. (We used hair spray afterward, trying to adhere the chalk and minimize flaking/smearing; the spray dulled the colors. Again, we weren't going for State Fair quality here.) The chalk didn't break, and I'd be happy to find another project so we could use it; now we know more about it and our time constraints (VBS rotation and the craft time). It was a good price for the variety and quality.

LOVE these. The colors are great and they're wonderful for just getting back into the art. Would definitely recommend for any beginner.
