I have always used the matching crimping sleeves. I use only to 30 to 45 pound leader. You could try doing a haywire twist. You can contact the manfacturer to get their recommendation to be sure.

Sure you can, 150-200lb is common for downriggers. But braided downrigger line is better, because you don't get the hum!
