New twists and turns for characters you already love. (Spoilers in this review)
Gotta love Kim Stone and crew. I liked that we got to know some characters like Dawson and Stacey a little better, Woody too. It's always nice to find more depth in the ones we think we know so well. The return of Alex Thorne made for many interesting little subplots and it was cool to glimpse Dougie and the Hardwick crew but that reminds me of something I was having trouble with, kept annoying me every time I read about Leo. Wasn't this guy's name Shane? Pretty sure this guy was supposed to be the one but his name wasn't Leo, when Kim finds the notebooks at the house, she even asks David Hardwick "who is Shane?". He has the backstory about the uncle and Alex! I actually liked the addition of him again but the name change kept messing with me. Replacing Frost was a good move because of the last book so it made sense to get a new nosy reporter in there without tainting our new vision of Frost. The continuing saga with Kim's mom took us some new places but I feel like the big moment was a little bit of a copout and it seems like her mother decided to keep giving her that same gift. All in all can't wait til the next one, probably shouldn't have read this one so quickly but they are fast paced and really make you care about these guys.

Another winner for Ms. Marsons!
4 and 1 / 2 starsDI Kim Stone and DS Bryant are called to the scene of a murder at 2 a.m. A woman named Deanna Brightman has been stabbed to death in her car. She worked at Children’s Services. As the investigation begins, another voice from the past is back.Dr. Alexandra Thorne makes a comeback in this book and she’s still up to her old tricks even though she is remanded to a fairly relaxed prison. Frustrated by what she sees as her attorney’s lack of action in freeing her, she makes her own plan. And, of course, that plan involves manipulating DI Stone to insanity. She’s having a grand old time in prison, manipulating the other prisoners and scheming. The investigation of Mrs. Brightman’s death moves forward. Her husband seems truly upset, but her sister is more than a little off-putting. When another body in found in the woods, it steps up the investigation. Although nothing like Deanna Brightman, Maxine Wakeman has the same wound type and it looks to be the same weapon that killed her with a single stab wound. After speaking again to the part-time housekeeper of the Brightman’s, Kim and her team just might have a potential suspect. After learning of the death of a seven-year old boy in the same manner, Kim and Bryant finally come up with the link they needed to move the case forward. After an exciting denouement, the killer is caught. The identity of the killer came as a complete surprise to me.This is a very well written and plotted novel. It starts out suspenseful which gradually increases throughout the novel. I appreciate the way the team gets along. There were a few bumps within the team in this book, but it all was smoothed out in the end. Ms. Marsons is a remarkable author, and I can hardly until I dig into the next in this series.

Unbelievably Awesome!
Oh my. Where to start? Angela Marsons is an amazing writer. The Kim Stone series is far and above the best series I have ever read (and I've read a lot). Angela draws out passionate emotions that range from laughter to rage, and every feeling in between. I laughed out loud, I cried, and several times I wanted to throw my phone or literally punch it. I was that angry at a fictional character. I would read several chapters and then have to step away because I dreaded what might be coming next. I was afraid for fictional characters. Seriously. Man, it takes an amazing writer to make me feel all these emotions about people who don't even exist. And I must say, as an avid reader of thrillers; and as someone who prides herself on being able to figure out who dunnit, I was shocked. I was completely wrong in my assumption, and totally taken off guard when the truth was revealed. We'll played, Angela. We'll played.Angela has a bit of a sick and twisted mind, much like myself. She goes to the dark places that most people prefer to pretend don't exist. Oh, but they do, my friend. They most definitely do. Just watch the news any given day. The devil is alive and well in this world.Excellent job once again, Angie. Thank you. I'm looking forward to the next adventure with Kim and the gang.Best wishes to you and Julie! 😊

Good Continuation in the Series
Blood Lines is one of the more complex books in the series. The main crime follows a spate of seemingly unrelated murders that are stumping Kim. Meanwhile the psycho Alex (from book 2) is in prison and back to her devious ways. Alex has an appeal trial looming and will do anything to be free. The book also contains darker memories from someone... but who? O... and Kim might have a stalker. So there is a lot going on but I liked the novel overall. I thought that the ending was wrapped too fast but at least nothing was left hanging. The Dawson POV's seemed pointless, but maybe they will be used to setup something in the next book.Positives:+ Interesting. Both the main crime and the behind the scenes drama with Alex.+ Kim. I love her.Negatives:+ Ending felt sloppy. Wrapped up way to fast and with not enough detail. Some of the subplots felt half-assed because of this ending.

Fantastic
Have read a few of the Detective Kim Stone series and each book has been absolutely gripping. This one didn’t disappoint, couldn’t put it down. This series is so well written, plenty of twists and turns combined with genuine knowledge of crime scene protocol. The author knows her stuff and tells it brilliantly. 100% recommend

Compelling, original, uplifting
In another tense and riveting murder enquiry, DI Kim Stone is once again facing her nemesis, Dr Alex Thorne in another epic battle of wills. It starts with the murder of a top level manager in Social Services. A single stab wound was all it took. A second murder of a drug addict, again involving a single stab wound, leaves Stone and her team with no links between the victims and few leads.Enter chilling sociopath Alex Thorne, plotting and scheming from her prison cell, determined to engage and defeat Stone. Playing dark, dirty and dangerous, Thorne manages to manipulate both wardens and fellow inmate to do her bidding, forcing a confrontation with Stone. As the battle of wills commences, there are more murders. Distracted by her private battle and demons, Stone struggles to make sense of the killings. By the time she makes the link, her own life is in danger.Like the previous novels, this is an intense, thrilling story that moves along at a cracking pace. The characters are sharply drawn to give them a chilling depth at times. The camaraderie and relationships within the team provide an intriguing, and often heart-warming backstory to support the main plot. But DI Stone is the charismatic star. Unsociable, focused and unorthodox, she never wavers or compromises. She also shows remarkable empathy and concern for those who have suffered like her and have to live with pasts they’d sooner forget. This is exceptional storytelling and characterisation, which pulls you in and won’t let you go until it’s drained your emotions. It’s bruising, compelling, original and uplifting.I need to rest before the next book in the series.

gripping story
the writing style is good, not extraordinary. but the stories are really gripping. I really like the characters, so I keep reading every single book of the series.another thing that bugs me, is the references to the previous cases. it’s annoying, if you’ve read them in order, like every normal person would do when starting a series.

What a Series
Amazing insight into very complex characters. All five books need to be read from the beginning to get the total impact. Fantastic characterisation and understanding of Human nature and the evil that can be hidden. I'm going to re-read all five books cause I loved them so much. Thank you Angela Marsons for such gripping plots.
