Setup is straightforward and quick because you do nothing but determine where to place the device. It has zapped a variety of insects for us, including flies, moths, misquotes, and moths. It does kill the odd insect which *accidentally* flies in but seems to be utterly hopeless at attracting bugs to the device in the first place. We live in Texas - there are plenty of likely flappy buzzy victims around.I have two of these devices and neither of them seem to have the kind of blue/purple lights in them you would expect, but in fact have a white light like a regular lantern - I wonder if this is part of the problem? They are giving out some UV since there is a very subtle fluorescent effect for white shirts which are very close to the units but it's barely noticeable (which might be correct for this type of bulb, who knows?)All in all, pretty disappointed.

I trust the brand. The item looks good. The light seems bright enough to attract insects.This items may work well outdoors but for my specific use to get rid of Australian fruit fly did not work out.I had many fruit flies in one room and this failed to capture except 2 or 3 when there are tens flying around. It catch a small moth. But that is about it after several weeks of use even in a closed dark room where the fruit flies are all over.I can't say this is not a good item, but it did not work on fruit flies and did not work for me. I will keep the item as one day I may give it a try next summer on the balcony outdoors.

In short, it kills many mosquitoes and flies very well in the dark. When it is sunny outside, however, it does not work as well.PROS- Kills mosquitoes, moths, and flies in the evening- Some killed bugs actually fall off- You can hear when a bug is zapped- Usable indoor and outdoor-- WARNING: Plug is NOT nor has ALCI circuit breaking protection against electric shockCONS- Not effective during sunny days as the bugs may not necessarily be able to see the blue glow- Can be a bit of a pain to clean the zapper from dead bugs with a small brush. Be sure to unplug from the power source so you don't electrocute yourself- Plug is NOT nor has ALCI circuit breaking protection against electric shock-- NOTE: description states it can be used outdoor, but without a waterproof rating or ALCI plug, I'd be very cautious to use it outside, particularly if it rains. Regardless, make sure you plug this into a GFCI outlet!- Being able to hear a bug being zapped can be uncomfortable for some people- Covers only a small area (Black and Decker sells a model that can cover a much larger space, and that one had been working VERY well too)Overall, this zapper works great in the evening, although mosquitoes could still come bite you.

There's nothing worse than relaxing on the patio and getting eaten up by bugs. I hate spraying insecticides with kids and pets around, so this is the best alternative. I've already got the larger unit with the 2 acre coverage in my backyard, but wanted something for my front porch covered balcony. I didn't need another large unit, so after a little research I decided that this little unit would be plenty for the area I needed. I wasn't sure if a smaller unit would be as effective as the large one, but I'm very impressed with the efficiency. As soon as you turn it on, it starts eliminating the little nusainances. I love the sleek and stylish look of it. It blends right in and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Just like all of the Black + Decker products I have, this is made with high quality materials and is a well manufactured device. It's much more effective than a fly swatter and the price is affordable! I highly recommend this zapper and all of the zappers that Black + Decker makes.

I have this on my screened back porch. Really controls the bug activity and does not make noise when deaths occur. But the light attracts bugs. Lots of bugs on the outside of the screen. A bit difficult to clean. Comes with a thin brush that fits thru the slots. Takes a while to clean. Well worth the price.

I purchased this product because of advertised 2 year warranty. It broke at about 7 months.Called the 888 number printed on the box, the phone company told me that the number was not in service.Went to the website and opened a case for warranty service, was told that the product was made by someone else, then slapped on a Black & Decker label. She asked me to call that non-existing 888 number, or send email to some unknown company for help.I insisted on handling through Black & Decker support site, and she gladly escalated case to whoever made the product, however never heard back since.

I love that it is not huge but it still does the job… Mosquitoes and Millers are horrible this time of year!! Highly recommend!!!
