You don’t , they just stay on. Maybe take batteries out if needed.

Is there a way to calibrate this hygrometer?

NO-YES google calibrate hygrometer, using table salt you will be able to establish how much your unit is off-if any. That should allow you to calculate the correct humidity from your reading. You may want to try it several times, to test its repeatability.

One arrived with the battery door completely off. How to reinsert without breaking off the tiny tabs that are supposed to hold it in?
