Q: How many bags of 4 quarts soil for the mini fabric bed?

The total volume of soil that the Big Bag Bed Mini will hold is 15 gallons. A four quart bag of soil is the equivalent to a one gallon bag - so 15 bags total. Although I would recommend 13 - 14 bags based upon the volume of soil that the transplants contain and the fact that filling an inch or two from the top of the Big Bag Bed Mini will allow you to water more effectively without water possibly spilling down the side.

Q: Could you grow squash or zucchini in this pot?

Growing a large veggie like a zucchini in a small growing space CAN be done in the Big Bag Bed. It’s very important to choose a container that is large enough to accommodate the plant’s extensive root system so that you get an abundant harvest. Smart Pots are ideal for large plants like zucchini. When the roots hit the sides of the Smart Pot, they “air prune” so instead of encircling the bottom of the pot, and becoming root bound, they prune themselves to form a fibrous root ball to take in maximum water and nutrients. This helps the plant to thrive and grow larger, producing more yield at harvest.

Q: Can I just put the soil in or do I need to line it with something before adding the soil?

I didn't line mine. I just put in a decent mix of potting soil and planted, then mulehed. I am on my 2nd year with this bed and very happy with the results.
