Review: A very high quality book a lot of information Review: I am a retired librarian. As such I look at books from several aspects, not just as ink on a page. This is a beautiful and cleverly done book. The science of astronomy, its development from pre-historic times through ancient, medieval, and renaissance years to today, the future, and beyond is presented in a conversational manner - not technical, not too scientific, very easily readable. The accomplishments of scientists and explorers of space are treated in a casual conversational manner. The cleverness of this book is that the information is presented in chronological order. The border of the left page features the date of the subject or event described. If you want to know when something happened, you don't have to look in the index for a page number. Just turn to the page with the date in the left margin. A full page picture, illustration, or photo is on one page with the text on the opposite. I keep it on the table beside the recliner and pick it up to flip through the pages in an idle moment, or take it to the bedroom for some light reading before turning out the lights.

This book on space teaches from the big bang, to the end of the universe with all major events, missions, and discoveries in between. It has high quality photos in some parts. It covers lots of astronomy theories and my favorite was Focault’s Pendulum to describe how the solar system worked.
