Yes, it is metal, but it is a junk metal
When I saw the render and read the specification, I have imagined a quality stainless steel compass.Unfortunately, the reality ruined this expectation.The item quality is much worse than it looks in the product card.

Ne assurément vaut pas la cote de 4,6
Objet très mal usiné, les pièces se joignent difficilement, les écrous se dévissent san arrêt. Ça va être très facile de les perdre. Aussi la tige d'extension pour tracer les grands cercles est si mal conçue que le porte mine qui coulisse dessus n'est pas maintenu fermement perpendiculaire à celle-ci. Résultat un cercle avecune ligne qui se dédouble. Ne vaut pas le prix.

Great for the price
There are a lot of functional pieces to this set and for being cast metal, it seems sturdy enough to last. I was pleasantly surprised at how large of a writing instrument the pencil holder section will accommodate. I can't think of a time that I would actually have the need, but it is large enough to hold a full-size Sharpie. The only thing that I feel would increase the value would be if it came in packaging that could more readily be used for storage as the molded plastic insert that holds the items in the outer packaging is very thin/floppy, making it difficult to put the parts back in it and challenging to get back into the outer packaging.

Sturdy and accurate
Sturdy metal compass. Liked the clips for coarse adjustments and the wheel for fine, Wish it came with a sturdy case.
