Great tool
I love these EZ Lok drivers. The tool drives the threaded insert to a proper depth and disengages automatically. This is much better than using a screwdriver (you have to be careful to get the depth right) - especially when using a power driver. Makes the work quick and accurate. But it is important to use the propper size driver for the insert you are using - that why I bought three of these in different sizes.

Great Tool
This tool was well thought out. Besides having the ears for driving the inserts in, they thought to have a small ball at the end that holds the insert in place on the tool so that you aren't having to fight to get the insert started, plus it won't slip off the tool as you reach to get it into tight locations. Once the insert is in place, the tool slips right out.

Worked better than expected
This was more durable than I expected. I made 110 beer tap handles and this tool did not fail. I screwed stainless steel thread inserts into hard maple with no problems.

Completely a waste of money
Bought this to use in EZ-Lock brass inserts. It’s the exact model specified by the manufacturer. Sadly the rectangular edges on the tool rounded off after about three inserts. These are BRASS inserts. They should be much softer than the tool steel of this item. I used the tool with a hand tool, not even a power driver. I was completely shocked that the tool hand rounded off and not the brass insert’s fitting. I needed to install 12 inserts and I barely got to number six, installing them by hand, before the tool was completely unusable. I’m not sure how I could’ve done the installs differently or more carefully. I held the tool flat to the surface of the insert and used a bees wax to coat the threads of the insert to help get it into the walnut material. I overdrilled the holes to try to give more room. I was quite aggressive in how much I overdrilled them as well to ensure ample room is provided. This was an utterly frustrating product. I’m attempting to return the tool now as I cannot see how a tool-steel part could give out against brass. Also the bit I received looks nothing like what’s in the picture either.

Also works very well with Hillman 3/8 brass threaded insert
Although only the E-Z Lok numbers are mentioned, I found this 500-5 to work very well with the Hellman 3021 3/8-16 brass threaded insert. Note there are tabs on either side of the 500-5 that have to fit into the slots of the insert. The slots of many threaded inserts are too narrow for these tabs. But slots of the Hellman 3021 are wide and work very well. Assuming you are wiling to lay out about $2 per 3/8 insert, the Hillman is, in my opinion, the strongest insert and is great for both soft wood and hard wood. The 3/8 inch Hillman is almost an inch in length and should have a higher pull-out force in soft wood than shorter inserts and also work fine in hard wood (if you have the length available). An additional advantage is that brass inserts have noticeably less friction than steel inserts.I can drive the 500-5 straight using my impact drill and can extract the insert with the same tool provided I keep firm downward pressure. The only limitation to this 500-5 is its OD is larger than the 15/32 inch hole Hillman recommends and I have to stop when the insert is flush.I like to drive the Hillman insert a bit below flush for optimum strength. The T-handle hand tool that Hillman sells for about $7 has an OD smaller than 15/32 and can drive the insert below flush with a turn or two at the end and extract a sub-flush insert back to flush with the same tool. My impact drill with the 500-5 can start up and finish the job outside of flush.I also bought the 500-4 which works well with the 5/16 inch Hillman inserts, but the 5/16 inch Hillman is a lot shorter than the 3/8 Hillman so I kept to the 3/8 inch Hillman and coughed up the money.

Not so good on hardwoods
Bought this tool as part of a furniture project I'm working on. Followed the instructions for hole drilling. To be fair, I'm working with Ash and not a softwood. Was able to install about 10 E-Z Lok threaded inserts before the tool started slipping off the inserts. Figured I may may not have been as careful as I should have using the tool, so ordered two more. Got 1 and a half inserts installed and the ears snapped off the new tool. I ended up using a large screwdriver after that. I would use this again but only on soft wood projects were I'm sure it would perform better.
