Fact, Fiction, and Flying Saucers: The Truth Behind the Misinformation, Distortion, and Derision by Debunkers, Government Agencies, and Conspiracy Conmen

Excellent overview of the 70 year debunking effort
This book really fills in the gaps in the bizarre and pseudoscientific history of the UFO debunking effort by leading skeptics. While it would easy to say this was all due to a secret government debunking program, Friedman and Marden show us that some of the personalities involved seemed to do this for their own motivations, however backward looking and selfish those might be. They simply weren't open to the evidence and devised the most ridiculous, over-simplistic, and hare-brained counter-explanations for truly perplexing sightings. Project Blue Blue comes off as the superficial and predetermined endeavor that it was. The candid and revealing conversations between Friedman and Brigadier General Carrol Bolender are nothing short of astounding and are essential to understanding why the public is so uninformed and confused over this issue. There are also some detailed case studies of well-documented but still mysterious encounters unexplained to this day. These phenomena have no easy explanation and the authors take us on an entertaining, fact-filled, and sometimes sad effort to keep the public misinformed about what continues to be one of the greatest mysteries in our history.(Dr. Simeon Hein is the author of Black Swan Ghosts: A sociologist encounters witnesses to unexplained aerial craft, their occupants, and other elements of the multiverse and Opening Minds: A Journey of Extraordinary Encounters, Crop Circles, and Resonance )

There indeed is a Cover-up and Disinformation process going on
You are driving down the highway at a good clip- at night- and over to your left in the sky at about 45 degrees elevation you notice a small star that seems to be keeping pace with your vehicle. You make a sharp right hand turn and so does the "star." You speed up, you slow down, and so does the "star." You happen to be a major player in the Gay community, or you are a whistleblower like Karen Stewart or you have been making a lot of left-of-center comments to news articles online recently. As you drive, over time, you begin to feel a burning sensation on your left shoulder and when you get home and look in the mirror, the upper left side of your person is beet red, as if you had sustained a sunburn on that part of your body. Congratulations...you are a victim of MK Ultra and you have just joined the international community of "Targeted Individuals." This is why there will never be a "Disclosure." Some person or group of persons has comandeered alien technology and is now using it on social undesirables who cannot be legally arrested. This, evidently, has become the new world order.

A critical look at Flying Saucer skeptics and their political agenda
I've enjoyed any book written by Stanton Friedman and Kathleen Marden. This book looks at the careers of a few hard-core skeptics who spent years attacking Mr. Friedman and Ms. Marden (and for that matter, anyone else who takes flying saucers seriously). In particular, the book examines the career of Philip J. Klass, who never let the truth get in the way of debunking a UFO report. Friedman and Marden ask: Why were certain radical skeptics so fanatical? What was really behind their manic efforts to destroy the credibility of any UFO researcher? Did they have a political agenda--beyond mere personal animus--for expending the amounts of energy it took to debunk every single flying saucer article they encountered? Friedman and Marden cite the facts mentioned in the book's title: Those facts show that some flying saucer reports are simply not swamp gas, weather balloons, or the planet Venus, no matter what Philip Klass and his colleagues claim.

Good book, for first time reader
Read all of Friedman's books, including the last two. This book almost reveal almost no new information. I expected to learn new developments, instead I found again Blue book quotes, and old information from the 60's-80's. Klass and Mendel are dead, and it important to look at the leaving debunks and deal with them. All and all, it's a good book, but I have expected Marsden and Fridman to deal with the big amount of new information such as the serious COMETA report. many cases discussed by LESLIE Kean and DR Maccabi and other important writers. The book was published in 2016, it seems that it's a missed opertunity to give the riders some new information. In that regard the book I believe, miss the point, and this is unfortunate.

The best book I have ever read on this subject
Finally, an author(s) willing to do the hard painstaking reseach on documented, historical facts and the obvious conclusions based on those facts. This is the one book I can finally point to and say, 'read this', and then tell me, what do you think now? By the way, I have read hundreds of books on this subject and this is the first and only book I've ever written a review on.

Unfortunately, the field of UFOs and the like has reached the point that everything written about the field now seems to be merely a rehash of old events. Stanton Friedman is among the best writers in the field, but there doesn't seem to be anything new to write about. I've been reading the material available for about 55 years and I'm 70 now. I suppose that there really isn't anything new under the sun as far as the UFOs are concerned

The truth is out there
This book is highly detailed, with plenty of solid references to back it up. It is written by two of the top UFO researchers who have Impeccable credentials. Eye-opening and an excellent reference for anyone who wants clarity out of all the nonsense plattering out there in regard to UFOs. I am a sci-fi writer trying to produce a work of fiction. The authors are giants I their fields.

Well documented but repetitive
Really a book of He said, She said. Tough to figure out who is telling the truth.

A very disappointing book from a qualified scientist who should know better. Much effort is expended on criticizing UFO sceptics who died years ago and cannot defend their views or participate in a debate. More information and analysis should be afforded to recent cases. Living, active researchers and their findings should be debated, rather than one more go-around with Roswell and Barney & Betty.
