The first one I bought lasted two years before died the second one I bought it didn’t even last a year and it died. It won’t recharge. However, on the second one, and I noticed that it was not taking a charge from the get-go they should at least make it where you can change the battery.

Q: Can you use it when plugged into 12v or is it just to charge battery?

Yes you can use it when it's charging. I like to shut off the side switch. I think if you just power it off and then put it on the next day the battery has died a little. So I always slide the off switch on the side after powering off. I have a Roku hooked to it and it becomes a smart tv. Just love it.
