WORKS GREAT--as long as it works.
The carpet sweeper motor of the first Hoover Cyclonic that I purchased died just within the year-warantee. Hoover honored the warantee by replacement. The replacement worked about a year until the main motor died. So, I've ordered a third. Why? Because the Hoover Cyclonic works so well, when it works. PROS > It is truly light-weight and almost a pleasure to use. > A switch selects between simple vac (ideal for hardwood floors etc.) and carpet. ... In carpet mode it does a good job of picking up surface particles from low-pile carpets. ... In normal vac mode it picks up even the lightest particles without blowing them around the room. > Reaches under furniture well and very easily. > No bags or filters to replace or wash---just dump out the container. ... No bags or filters to get clogged-up to reduce the vacuum power. > Easily partially disassembles to clean clogs---not common, but if you suck up a paper towel or a big wad of cat hair, it is possible. > Not rechargeable, so you don't have to wait for the battery to charge, nor replace an expensive battery after a few months. ... The good long cord stows easily ... Almost certainly more powerful than a comparable battery-powered vac. CONS > Since it is bagless, it isn't hypoallergenic. > After a few months use (once a week), the beater-brush made a horrid screeching sound. I was able to fix it by partially disassembling the lower unit and dripping lubricating oil into the beater-brush bearings. > Although the carpet mode does a good job of cleaning the surface of a low-pile carpet, it doesn't do the deep-beating of a large carpet vacuum. Fortunately, I don't have any deep-pile carpets. I use the Hoover Cyclonic for routine floor and carpet cleaning, and my big Hoover WindTunnel Anniversary Upright Vacuum, Self-Propelled, Bagged, U6485900 for serious carpet cleaning. > Not very versatile. It cleans floors and low-pile carpets, period. You need something else for furniture, drapes, attics, etc. I seriously suggest a shop-type vacuum such as Shop-Vac 9650600 3.0-Peak HP Pro Series Wet or Dry Vacuum, 6-Gallon . A shop-vac can do virtually everything that a Hoover Cyclonic can't, and the price will surprise you. In addition to floors, draperies walls, ceilings, attics, and really filthy basements, a shop-vac can even vacuum up water from your carpet if you have a flood, or blow up your air mattress for your guests. > Click on “Stoney” just below the product title to see my other reviews, or leave a comment to ask a question.

Great little vacuum
This is a great little vacuum. It is the corded version of the Linx cordless vacuum. Light and easy to use, it has great suction, a really easy to empty dust cup, and a brush roll that does the job on low pile carpets. I've had this vac for about a month and so far it is working out great. I love the super easy to empty dust cup, it is hands free, just touch the button and the bottom of the cup opens and all the dirt falls out, I don't have to use my hands to free the dirt and hair or a brush to clean out the dust cup. The cord is 20', so you can get a lot of area done before having to change plugs. I originally wanted to get the cordless version of this vacuum, but after reading the reviews of the battery life and comparing costs, I decided on this one, and I'm very happy with my decision. We live on a farm and have five dogs who come in and out of the house regularly, so dirt and hair are a real issue for us. This vacuum really does a great job on the dog hair and dirt, it is so much easier to use than my old upright, so light and easy to get into tight places without having to move heavy furniture. Would highly recommend this to anyone needing hard floor cleaning and low pile area rug cleaning. I don't have heavy pile carpet so I can't comment on it's ability to clean that, but on bare floors and low pile area rugs it is great.

Nice for floors and carpet. Versatile and good performance.
This is a very nice stick vacuum. It works very nicely on hard floors and carpet. I do wish it had ten feet more cord. I use an inexpensive thin extension cord since it doesn't pull all that much current. I do find when using it on hard floors with the brushes off, it pays every few minutes to raise it up off the floor and flip on the brushes a couple seconds. The brush collects stuff which this clears away. If you don't, eventually some of it drops off the brush when you lift and move the vacuum. The instructions could be better, and the fit of the removable cyclonic section isn't great though it does function. When you remove that to empty what has been picked up you can also twist and remove the orange spinning vane to dump out what has gotten into the second chamber. The instructions never mention this. Cleaning and dumping the debris is pretty much a breeze. Suction is pretty good. Maybe not the only vacuum you need for heavy carpet though it performs pretty well even there. Now when I first opened it the construction and materials seemed so flimsy you get a bad impression. I figured it would be no good. I do wonder about longevity, but so far it performs better than expected. Great replacement for brooms on flooring and good for maintenance vacuuming on carpeting. The swivelling head seems well thought out and is very handy for manouvring around objects. Very light, and handy. I find I use it much more often than my big vacuum. Keeps my place nicer until the deep cleanings with heavier duty gear. Might be the only thing needed for a college dorm or small apartment.

Well have one of these in Florida for my lanai these things suck up dirt really well surprised how much and they work just as well on hardwood. I know people read these reviews all they want to know is how it works where it works how good it works. It works well on hardwood floors or hard surface floors. I works great on carpets as well great suction you would be surprised on your first pass over with it how much dirt your get in the cup. this is meant for light cleaning not really meant to replace your bigger heavier vacuum . You can use it every day if you choose to do so my goal I to have this light one up stairs do my hardwood and area rugs that is it. Before I had a hoover over the shoulder vac heavy and awkward you have to put a strap over your shoulder and not light still have it but hope I do not have to use at all or very little . My only complaint I wish that it went lower to the ground meaning it does not fit under my coffee end tables so you need a dust mop to get under there. And it does swivel but only a little it does not have a full swivel head . So those are my only little complaints . But I over look them because it does such a great job. And is light weight is key. Like when you need to do that quick clean up when someone is coming you want to be able to crab something light and easy so it does not wear you out and has power and does hardwood and carpet. This little gem is great lots of power does the job if there is any thing negative on here they are being picky. It is a low cost stick vacuum and does and amazing job. I have one in Florida was shocked how well it works and I now have one here in Niagara falls Canada .

The corded Hoover Cyclonic Stick Vacuum came quickly (2 days). It was very easy to put together (3 parts). I plan to use it on floors, not carpeting. I tried it on a carpeted area, but it was not as efficient as my regular vacuum. I have only used it once so far, but it picked up dust and debris very nicely. Much better suction than the rechargable stick vacuum that I am replacing. Very easy to empty. Easy to manoeuvre and lightweight (under 8 lbs). The 20ft cord is just right. I am very pleased with this product so far.

It's a nice light vacuum that sucks stuff up well, but the cord could be a bit longer. 15 feet is not quite long enough to do my hallway without unplugging it and moving it down to another outlet. ETA: It's 11 months on, and the vacuum has been acting up for the last month, and yesterday the motor started to burn out. Smells like burned wires, and was smoking a bit. It was sucking stuff up, I kept the filter clean, and made sure there were no clogs. It is very disappointing, as my last Hoover vacuum lasted us 27 years, and this one didn't even make a year. I'll try customer service, but reading the reviews on here, I don't hold out much hope.

We purchased this for light clean up between heavy vacuuming. We used it on bare floors and area rugs. Other reviews are correct when mentioning the frequency of emptying the dirt cup....and boy is it messy. It does pick up crumbs on bare floors very well. It didn't do too well on the very flat pile area rugs. We have some dog hair and it continually clogged the inside workings of the cup. I would not recommend for anyone having any pet hair. We ended up returning it because the clip to hold the dirt cup kept coming undone and hence the dirt cup kept falling off. OK, so here is the rundown as to whether you want this vacuum or not. If you want an underpowered vac which will only be used for quick jobs this might be for you. You know that game you play of "I'd rather go over the piece of garbage on the floor several more times rather than just pick of up?' You'll play that game a lot more with this vacuum than if you just got the real thing. It feels pretty cheap and while its very light, it feels light in that bad way of lacking substance and durability. Having said all that, here is my list of pros for if you really are in the market for a small, lightweight, simple vacuum. It has a switch to go between no brushroll (hard floors) and brushroll (carpets) and the brushroll works decently. Its nice and simple to empty. The cord is decently long so you can get a good sized area. Its very light so nothing you wouldn't mind grabbing out of the closet for a quick cleanup. It has a reasonable (but not great) low profile which can get halfway under furniture. (Expect to be able to vacuum about a foot and a half under the edges of a low bed, but definitely not getting to the middle.)

Not as strong suction as I would like. Easy to use and light weight. Thank goodness for the powered brush! Wish I could get it under furniture. The power switch is in a weird spot.
