Works well!
We borrowed a guinea pig from an animal lending library and that little guy pooped and peed A LOT, so we went through the weekly supply from the nature reserve in way less than a week. So I jumped on Amazon to look for some kiln-dried pine shavings and found this, and it was delivered the next day. Total bargain compared to the pet stores near me! The guinea pig loved it, and it worked really well as bedding. And the bag is HUGE!

Makes my massive poops not smell
We got this to use in our composting toilet in our tiny house. Yes, that's an unconventional use for pet bedding, but sometimes you need to absorb your own poop - not just your pet's. The way it works is, you put some shavings down in the bucket, you do your business, then you cover it with some more shavings. In theory, if you do it right (and separate the solids from the liquids), you won't be able to smell it, and it'll eventually turn into compost you can use to grow your food! (that's the simplest, simplest explanation - you should really just look it up on youtube).Anyway - we got this one because it's the cheapest we could find, and we are extremely happy with it! It masks my stench so my wife no longer gags when I do my business in the next room (which is only separated by a thin piece of plywood).

Good quality wood chips
Good quality wood chips. Large pieces, not dusty, and most importantly, not scented. My Syrian hamster, Winnie, seems to love digging in it and incorporating it in his bedding. He does not sneeze or have any skin problems with this (nor do I). I love that this does not have a scent to it, which makes it healthy for Winnie and me. I highly recommend this product. I also recommend: Prevue Pet Products 528 Dark Gray Universal Small Animal Home, Fiestaware Ramakin, Kaytee Chew-Proof 6 oz Water Bottle, Silent Runner 9” Exercise Wheel with cage attachment, Kaytee Mini Igloo Hideout.

Good product
This product worked will for my hamster. The shavings themselves do not have a strong odor and it keeps the odor down from inside the cage as well. I gave it 4 stars because it is not the highest quality product but you get what you pay for. I would recommend buy this product to a friend and I would purchase it again myself.

Good for a guinea pig
I babysat my nephews' guinea pig for a week while they were on vacation. The cage needed cleaning and they hadn't left any shavings so I bought these. Oliver seemed okay with them and I thought they were probably absorbent enough since I didn't see dark spots. What I liked best - the light color because WOW, do guinea pigs poop a lot. The color contrast made it easy to pick the poops out so Oliver wasn't living in it. Important because he pooped indiscriminately - in his house, by his food bowl, under his water spout - just everywhere. (Turns out, they eat their poop, they don't absorb all the nutrients the first time around. Who knew?)Anyhow, these did the job. I'd buy them again.

Great for hamster
South cheaper than the paper stuff. Works awesome for my daughter's hamster. She rarely has to change it. Save money, use this instead of the paper stuff. This is 50% less than paper stuff and safe for hamsters because it is ASPEN.

Not for what I needed.
I wanted to try these pine shavings to go all natural for my cats litter box. Huge fail ... with no weight & light as a feather, they flew everywhere when my cat covered up her business, making a huge mess everywhere. They would be great for a hamster's bedding, etc. Just not for a litter box.

Recommend! Keeps cage odor down vs. other kiln dried pine bedding!
Love! No cage smell compared to the huge $7 bag of shavings from off brand. Someone said that softwood shavings make cages smell more. But this doesn’t seem to be the softwood type. It’s regular pine bedding, kiln dried & safer. I use puppy pads, then light layer of this, & light layer of Carefresh paper bedding. Then add KayTee plush bedding in houses. I tossed all fleece with cage cleanings. Let go of $1,000 in fleece over time. Sucks, but my time & washer/dryer more valuable! I freshen bedding & change cage weekly. Any longer & the paper bedding looks gross in areas & only the Orchard Grass Hay smells. Move their homes around the cage to new area & freshen bedding in order to get more days between complete cage cleanings. Cage next to kitchen too. Down to 2 pigs, who will use litter box. HTH!
