Happy Jack Sardex Mange Treatment for Dogs – Odorless & Stainless Itch Relief for Skin Irritations Including Severe Mange, Hot Spots, Fungi, Allergies, Eczema (9.5 oz)

After agreeing with a family member to care for their two Yorkies for a month while they’re on vacay, I found out the doggos have sarcoptic mange. One dog’s skin was inflamed red and balding and the other had enlarged lymph nodes and an open sore on their back. Both exhibited black darkened patches of skin. After 1 week of using this topical ointment (used every other day applied with thick latex kitchen gloves), the itching has gone down, their hair is growing back and the sore is slowly healing over. The routine that’s working is: shampoo with veterinary formula antiparisitic & antiborrheic shampoo for 15 mins and washed off, mixture of 3 tbsp borax diluted with 2C benzoyl peroxide and hot water in a spray bottle to evenly coat fur (careful to not spray head/face) and left on to air dry for 30 mins, dry rest of the way with blow dryer, and ointment put and left on until next bath. This ointment is staining and has a sulfuric smell; I suggest it applied to your gloved hands and then to their fur in addition to crating the dogs during the duration of the treatment with pee pads. Ensure the area in which they’re kept is well ventilated, I had an air purifier on max during application and at a low setting all other times. Good value for the money and does what it says.

Worked really really well. Pretty sure my hound had mange. Kept it on my girl for 2 days and then washed off with dish soap (only way to cut through it as it’s an oil). She responded so well with it that her skin is healing and hair already growing back. Bought a second bottle just in case! The smell everyone is talking about is true. Smells awful but works wonders. Be sure to keep your dog away from anything you don’t want to throw out. The smell won’t come out of bedding we used for her even with laundering 3 times. Worth it still.

Our pup was suffering from demodex mange and rather than starting him on a long course of Ivermectin (with it's possible severe side effects), we opted to try this even though it specified it was for sarcoptic mange mites. I have no way of knowing that this product worked or if it was the immune system finally kicking in or the shampoo/oil treatments that we were also using, but his mange appeared to be eliminated after two treatments. Our shar-pei mix pup was a rescue that we fostered, along with his two siblings, from age 4 weeks to 11 weeks, at which time we adopted our boy. All the pups had a slight thinning of hair in areas, which we attributed to the poor conditions/nutrition of the young pups. About the time we adopted him officially and he was neutered by the shelter, his thinning patches turned into bald spots and over the next couple of months it continued to get worse. We did everything we could to support his immune system and bathed him with a medicated shampoo provided by the vet, however the hair loss continued and the mange patches spread. We made one final attempt to clear up his mange without resorting to Ivermectin. We bathed with the medicated shampoo provided by the vet to open up the follicles, and, when dry, we applied the Sardex II to all the patchy areas (basically his entire body), applying carefully to his face by spraying into our hands first. He was a little freaked out by the aerosol, but didn't seem to have any reactions or side effects. We let the Sardex II dry and re-applied, as per instructions. After a few days, our pup seemed very itchy and had lots of flaking skin in the mange areas only. We had read that this could happen when the mites push their way to the surface. To help soothe the itching, and because we had read quite a bit about various oils being used to treat mange, we coated the pup in coconut oil (which he LOVED). We left this on him for about 24 hours, and then shampoo'd him with a coal tar / sulfur shampoo (we used SynergyLabs Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic & Antiseborrheic Medicated Shampoo). We repeated this whole treatment at 7 days (the Sardex II specifies to repeat every 7 days until the mange is resolved). We thought we would be treating a third time, but noticed that new hair was growing in the bald areas. We decided to hold off a little longer. Now, one month later, his coat is completely grown back with the exception of a very small amount of thinning around the one eye where the mange started. We will continue to monitor that site. Having dealt with mange in previous foster dogs that were treated with the standard Ivermectin course, I felt like this was a very fast resolution of the issue. I would certainly suggest it for those who want or need to avoid Ivermectin, or who would like to try an alternative treatment first. As another person mentioned, this product does contain benzyl benzoate, which is used in other countries for the treatment of scabies and mange, and the research shows it to be highly effective against scabies / sarcoptic mange. I wasn't sure how well it would treat demodex (confirmed by skin scraping), but it certainly seemed to help quickly! And in case you are wondering how much a can treats, we basically treated our 50 lb puppy (very short coat) for two weeks and it feels like the can is still quite full. I would guess we could have gotten another 3 or 4 weeks out of it, or treated multiple dogs quite easily. A note on my photos - The mange around the eye, first photo was taken 11/20/2014, before the first treatment. Second photo was taken 12/13/2014, and it has continued to fill in. On the shoulder, the first photo was taken on 11/25/2014, the second 11/30/2014 (the new coat was just starting to grow back in), the third on 01/01/2015 (no sign of the mange at all). I wish I had been able to document this better, but trying to get a puppy to hold still can be a challenge :).

Had first treatment today! Praying it works! Next stop is the Rainbow Bridge. 😢 The most difficult part of using this is getting the dog to cooperate so you can get it rubbed in to their skin. I was dreading the smell from all of the reviews I’ve read. However, it just smells like I’ve doused my dog in petroleum. Of course that isn’t pleasant but it’s not a stinky sulfur smell like I thought it was going to be.

This may have worked, but it ruined my life quite literally. My dogs had itchy flaky skin. Didn't know what it was, vet didn't know either. I bought this to try and their skin seems better for now, after my one an only use. Now I slathered their whole body in it and I used the whole bottle. I did 2 of my 3 dogs as the puppy didn't seem affected with the dry, flaky skin. The smell was strong. It's winter so I did it in my shower downstairs. It made me lightheaded, it didn't stink though just like a chemical pine smell. You don't rinse so I assumed it would be absorbed. I stuck the dogs in the laundry room for 24 hours but had to let them out so briefly they jumped on furniture and ect cause they had been locked up for so long and when I let them out they were excited. but the stuff never got fully absorbed and they were still wet 24 hours later. I left it on for another 12 and then bathed them. It took like 6 washed to get it off. However, my house weeks later still stinks. It took like 12 washed to get the sent out of my blankets. The smell is probably still in my carpet or on my couch. I carpet cleaned 3 times and steamed cleaned my couch several times. The smell has morphed into different smells over the week. From pee to rotten to whatever it is now, I couldn't even describe it. Thankfully it's starting to fade. But it's been weeks. I've bathed my dogs with special medicated shampoos trying to get smell out so not sure what cured them, but at least they are better. If you use this make sure it's summer so you can do it outside and preferably have like a cage to keep them and separate from your main living area. I bought 2 bottles and returned the second cause it quite literally has ruined my life the last several weeks. I've used baking soda and vinegar and all sorts of stuff to clean with and it's still there. Even the clothes I washed in my washer after started smelling like this stuff. It's been a nightmare. Do not recommend. My husband said never use this stuff again. And he has a very poor sense of smell.

I use this as recommended for a doggy dip including other ingredients. I live in California so we have a different recipe, the original was not able to send to me. Using this, dawn dish soap, a little bleach, as well as a couple more ingredients with a LOT OF WATER and a flea collar- really helped. I would love to be sponsored by this brand because the bottle barely lasted 3 months and with this economy it is fairly expensive. But once I rob a bank when the internet shuts down- I’d completely fill my house with these bottles. Maybe pour some along the way to keep the environment flea and tic free (jokes- but please feel free to come after me Feds and cancel culture I’m bored)

It kinda worked for itch relief. But not much product in the can. My dog is a big dog though. Ihe gor 2 treatments out of one can. The bad is it stinks pretty bad and hard to wash off if you get some on you.. I ordered the pills for mange too and that worked better.

I got this to help my dog that’s had some spot that he’s been constantly itching. I’ve tried everything other creams, sprays, bath soaps and vitamins. This has been the only ointment that has helped. I put it on my dog every other day before bed and within a few days he’s been itching less and finally stopped. The product is easy to use just use gloves. It has a strong smell but it’s not bad, reminds me of essential oils. Overall I’m very happy I came across this product and will definitely be buying it in the future.
