It came very sharp out of the box. Nice quality overall. The handle is made of real wenge wood. The handle needed some work to improve comfort. I sanded it a bit with a Dremel and wet sandpaper and now I have a very professional looking knife. You can't beat this for the price!

The blade shape is absolutely intentional. The first quarter of the blade has the perfect angle when coming down with vertical cuts through an onion. To finish the onion you are in the center of the blade using a downward/ forward motion. The shallow curve encourages a natural, tip down, rocking motion when fine chopping herbs. And SERIOUSLY SHARP!!!

I gave this to my daughter who loves to cook with fresh herbs and veggies. This knife is very easy to use and can slice much thinner pieces than a standard 'Chef's Knife'. I like that it's hand forged steel too. Sure, they require more cre than 'stainless steel', but the edge stays sharp longer that the 'stainless 'kitchen set I bought several years back.

Handle comes loose after less than 20 uses. Not sure if this is normal but hope it holds

This is a review for the 7 inch Chinese butcher knife vegetable cleaver knife. This is an excellent knife, easy to hold and cuts through most things like butter. Some might find this knife to be a little on the heavy side , but this is expected for a Chinese butcher knife, and when used correctly helps with whatever you might be cutting - you let gravity and the weight of the knife help with the work. Some reviews have complained about rust. This should be expected in a knife made of high carbon steel. The high carbon steel will help the knife retain its sharp edge over its lifetime - to prevent the rust give it a liberal coat of food safe oil after every wash and use. Many high quality edged tools use high carbon steel for the very same reasons of durability, strength and edge retention. The wife made me return this item due to the high carbon rust issue. But if you don’t mind giving your knife a little TLC after each use and wash. This knife is a great all around kitchen knife and a great value for your money.
