what is the diameter of the opening?

The diameter of tube one of the clips clamped on to was 1" but also came with a slightly smaller clip that looks to be about 7/8" dia. The soap tray itself is 115mm in diameter (or a bit over 4.59" round). The dish projects out 136mm from the centerline of the mounting tube to the edge of the dish. Its all just clear plastic.

The item you are selling, is it for a 1 inch bar or 7/8 inch bar?

This soap dish comes with two holders, one for a 1 inch bar and one for a 7/8" bar.

Can you attach this after the shower pole is already installed (clip on?) or do you have to slide it over the pole before the shower installation?

yes, its in two pieces. One small clip attaches to metal and holder slides into it. They are look and work great. There are two sizes of clips too for different diameter poles.

What is the actual size of soap dish?

This was posted before as being 115mm or 4.69 inches. That is edge to edge of the actual soap dish. The space for soap is just over 4.5 inches.
