They loved looking at the pictures
This book was a tremendously helpful part of speech therapy with preschool-age children with speech/language delays. They loved looking at the pictures, which are bright and engaging depictions of familiar settings. I often read this book with children new to speech therapy. I followed ideas from the prompts on each page. Interacting with this book with young children new to speech therapy helped them feel at ease, helped us connect in a fun, relaxed way, and helped me get an idea of their receptive/expressive language ability and how well they could imitate sounds and actions. It was easy to pair this book with other activities during speech.Lately, I've been reading this book with my 20 month old nephew, who is a late talker. He loves the pictures and loves interacting with the book. It's reinforced the few simple words and phrases he does say (he loves saying "no no!" to the dog on each page), while learning new words, concepts, and trying new sounds or actions.I've been pleased time and again with this book. It's great for speech therapists as well as parents or other caregivers who want to help young children develop their speech and language skills.

Such a good start for talking
This book truly helped my toddler begin to mimic and talk. Its very interactive and gave me a piece of mind as I began to worry about my late talker. My speech therapist recommended it and it really works by getting you a little more involved with pretending through the pictures with your child. My 2 year old really really liked this and it engaged him and opened a door for communication. Highly recommend as a good start. It takes a little while but stick with it. There is really no real dialogue to it other than things like uh oh, or no no doggy, hi baby etc it's up to you to come up with the story line and imaginative play. The more little sayings you make up as you point to something in the picture and repeat as you read each page again the next time the more your child will know what to expect you will say and they will begin to want to say it first. My son always loved the park scene. We climb up the slide with our fingers climb climb climb and count to 3 ready 1.. 2...3... and weeeeeee slide down the slide. He loved it!

GREAT for late talkers...
my son is two and just now labeling objects pretty well...he didn't babble when younger and just finally says mama and daddy. he also doesn't really like to sit down and be read to :( this book is a great way for parents to sit down with the child (if only for a minute) and look at the pictures and talk about them, talk about all the expression words! the pictures go from different scenes from the day. starting with waking up in the morning, getting ready to leave, playing at the park, and bedtime. also my sons speech pathologist (after seeing my copy) has suggested it to many of her other clients. my only wish is i would have found it sooner! when he wasn't interested in making sounds at all...i think it might have helped him earlier. it is NOT a typical story but, you can sure tell one/many to your child and let them tell you one from this book as well :)

Must have for SLPs
This is a fantastic book for parents and therapist. I am a speech therapist and I would be lost without this book. It is great for children with significant language delays. Great for eliciting imitation from patients. Some of the words are cut off in the binding in the book, which doesn't make for an easy reading experience. But overall, this book is a therapist's dream come true and I wish they would make more! I got this book for a little over $10.00 from Amazon. Apparently it is sold out and other buying options list it for much much more. I wouldn't pay more than twenty for this book. Hopefully they get more in sick soon.

Good idea, but....
This book is good for helping parents understand that you can do more with books than simply read them to children. For children with language delays, you have to be more creative. Having said that, there is not much to this book, especially for the price. I also dislike the illustrations. You can do this type of interaction with books more effectively with something like a Fisher-Price lift-the-flap book.

Different than any other book
This is NOT a book you read to your child, but you just look at the pictures and explain/interact with your child what is happening in them (there are suggestions on how to do this). As a lazy parent, I would rather read a book for the 100th time then actually think about what I was reading and have to interact with my child. I got over it, DO IT! It's way better than just going through the motions. In fact, I started doing this with the television programs my children were watching, too. Plan what they watch and interact with them about what you are watching (instead of just turning on the TV and leaving the room).

Buy this book now for every baby shower!
My first son was a very slow talker and when he did start to talk, no one could understand him. He qualified to receive speech services through our state's Baby Watch program. Our speech pathologist used this book. My son LOVED it! He was very stubborn about talking, but this book helped encourage him to talk. I finally bought it for my second son when I was started to get nervous about his speech. He loves this book! I love how interactive it is. I wish it could be a board book though, but that's okay. I will be buying this book for every baby shower I go to because I believe in it so much!

Nothing special
I purchased this book for my son who has speech delays. After receiving it, I don't really understand what all the hype is about. The pages give you some directions on how to interact with the drawings. For example, on a page that has an illustration of a swing, it says to pretend to swing the child back and forth. Or on a page that has bubbles, it says to pretend to blow the bubbles. My opinion is that you don't need this book to do those interactive things. You can really do that with ANY book you have. As long as you are using a book with illustrations, you can certainly pretend to interact with the pictures. So for that reason, I find purchasing this particular book unnecessary. Unless I am missing something, there is nothing that seems to separate it from other books, in my opinion.

Kids love it
The concept for this book is great and I imagine it is a great educational tool for parents in learning to be animated and imaginative when reading to babies. But the pages are paper and the 'story' doesn't start on page 1 which is very frustrating for baby and parent alike. Also there isn't much to work with. The illustrations are ugly and badly placed. For example one hint is to bounce the ball but the ball is lost between the page dividers. There is another page that refers to doing something in the sky but you can hardly tell the difference due to the bad perspective of the picture. Also the pages are paper which is a logistical nightmare as you have to turn the pages superfast before the baby tries to grab them from boredom/being a baby. If you want a great picture book to make things up then look up 'indestructables' for beautifully illustrated picture books (although again not board books so highly irresistable to little fingers).Edit: as much as I still hate this book, my toddler loves it and asks for 'uh oh'. It has taught me the art of reading for babies. They really love overemphasised exclamations! It's designed by a speech expert and not someone marketing books for parents. I've therefore changed it from 1 star to 5! The book has survived despite being paper because my toddler doesn't turn the pages from boredom. There's only one ripped page at the back.
