What amazing and fun patterns!
After making my first couple of stranded knitting hats, I jumped into Jorid Linvik's Book of Knitted mittens and I haven't looked back! The ones in the photos are for my granddaughter, who loves rainbow colors. I've made the Little Bird mittens, and the adult bird mittens, the beautiful snowflake like pattern in cream and blues and I'm just starting on some owl mittens. I want to make the polar bears and the moose. There's also little fox ones. Jorid does a wonderful job explaining how to get various mitten sizes by changing needle size, her charts are super easy to read, helpful tips throughout, and the patterns are just SO cute! These take time, and the thumbs can be a bit fiddly if you've never made mittens before, but all the detail makes it worthwhile. If you want to learn how to make stranded mittens, this is the book to buy!

Probably not for newbies, but a great addition to a budding designer or colorwork fanatic's library
Well written with beautiful charted designs. There is a lot of very useful info on gauge/size changes. However, if you are a newbie knitter or haven't done colorwork before or are a "blind follower" (to quote Elizabeth Zimmerman) tread lightly. This may not be the book for you.Still reading this review and a newbie? Make a tubular swatch using just the hand portion of one of the patterns (no thumb) before you jump into a pair of gloves. The swatch can become a small bag or a mug cozy and by the time you are done with it you will know a LOT about what it takes to get wearable mittens from YOUR yarn. Go for it!

Entire zoo in a mitten book
The book says "Big Book of Mittens" but what it doesn't describe are the great animal motifs. I got it for the poodle mittens but there is also a "dog" mitten with a Boston Terrier. I have friends with both breeds.Fisherman mittens have fishbones and fish. An owl--that one, I have to knit right after the poodle.Zebras, elephants, horses, cats, rabbits, mice, giraffe, reindeer. An adorable black-and-white cow with a pink nose and ears --for kids. The entire zoo is here. As well as some traditional geometric, folkloric designs. Even a rock guitar.

Eye Candy
I haven't knit any of the patterns yet (I just received the book last week), but I love the patterns included and know friends and family will enjoy receiving these knitted mittens as gifts! Most of the designs are animal-inspired and are definitely not the standard geometric repeating designs that many Scandinavian books offer, so if you're looking for an uber-traditional book of patterns this probably isn't the book for you. For me, though, I really appreciate these designs, and based on the number of requests I've already gotten from friends and family, these patterns will be a hit for any recipient.I'll update this review once I've knit a few of the designs and can weigh in on errata, clarity of patterns, etc.

Fun patterns! Best get knitting
Nicely bound with beautiful full color photos on nice paper. Each pattern has a picture of the front and back of each mitten and all the related charts are color too. This book may be hard for true beginners to follow because there is little information about how to do stranded knitting. I’ve knit in the round before, but this will be my first attempt at stranded style. For techniques, YouTube is better anyway. Love the patterns, the authors candor, and appreciate the “make your own” section at the end with blank charts. To the yarn shop I go!

MOSTLY CHILDRENS DESIGNS
A bit disappointed with the contents - waited a long time for it to be back in print - mostly what I consider to be children's designs - not a lot of traditional patterns - you can make up your own - but I was looking for a more traditional book I guess. I don't think the patterns are terribly Scandinavian in theme.

The title is a little misleading....
The use of Scandinavian in the title confused me, I was expecting more of the traditional Nordic, Swedish and Danish designs . Nice presentation with a section at the front with tips for your projects, a glossary at the end ,advice for felting which is handy if you're new to this technique. There are very few traditional patterns here, the majority are animals, a few with words and a few with abstract designs, the ice crystal pattern is lovely. The patterns are charted and well laid out with pictures for each pattern , if you want a cow , frog, zebra or any of the other animals you'll be all set, this book isn't my taste I favour abstract patterns and more traditional patterns.

Sent it back but that’s just me.
There’s nothing wrong with this book, it just wasn’t what I expected . I was after traditional Nordic patterns. I should have looked closer at the cover. I sent it back and was refunded immediately. Thank you Amazon.

Loads of patterns
I have never knitted with dpns and haven't tried out a pattern in this book yet so can't comment on that yet but I will have a go soon as there are so many beautiful patterns to inspire I can't wait to get going.

A pattern to suit everyone!
This is a beautiful book with gorgeous designs. I have made a pair for my husband and plan to make another pair v soon - hardest part is deciding which one since they are all so beautiful. Book layout is good and explains how to find the glove size by changing to larger or smaller needle. For a knitter with some experience, a more beginner knitter would need some guidance.
