Mine had a strong odor too. Does anyone know of a similar item by another brand that does not smell??

I have not had good luck lately with other brands. I ordered an Art Alternatives box several years ago and love it, so I recently ordered another, twice from two different sellers, but they have changed and are now cheap crap. I tried twice but sent them both back. The box you see in the picture is not what you get. I wish they would update product pictures and also not have reviews mixed between items. I sent the first Creative Mark 3 box I ordered back because of the smell (it made my eyes burn). I ordered it again from a different seller (Jerry's Artarama) thinking a different seller might make a difference. Not really. The new one smells also, although not as bad. Some people think it's the foam in the trays that is the problem. What I did however, is take the foam out, sprinkle coffee grounds over the bottom of the drawer, and put the foam back in. It now smells like coffee but that's better than the original smell. :) I'm told the coffee grounds will absorb the odor so I'm hoping eventually I can dump them out (although they aren't really a problem). Some people have said the smell dissipates after a few months. At least I know the quality of the this Creative Mark 3 box is good. With the other brands, according to reviews it seems to be hit or miss. Some people get a great box and love it, others seem to get a different cheap box. Frankly, I'm tired of sending them back.

How do I get rid of the strong odor? Airing doesn't work.

The strong chemical odor was too strong for me. It permeated my whole apartment. The scent did not decrease, tho' I took all of the drawers of their boxes, and set them in single layers on a table for airing. In fact, the odor increased once I did this. There is no way to currently set things outside to air out, because it's a wet winter here. I should not have to do so, anyway.

How many colored pencils can you store in the three drawers?

Hi...each drawer fits about 45 pencils, so 135. I actually have two sets of drawers which stack nicely on top of each other. I really love these drawers.

Would they withstand the weight of a mirror ?

I’ve put things like a couple books on top of mine... I’d guess it would all depend on how much the mirror weights and how big it is. There’s more strength in the sides of the box than compared to the middle.
