Clear and sharp images
I love the macro abilities with this lens, but I also enjoy how versatile it is. I’m just an amateur photographer in my free time but I’ve really enjoyed using this lens. I only seem to have issues with the autofocus when I have it set to the crop format instead of full frame, which was my fault not realizing that’s what I had it set on. Other than that I’ve got no complaints! Great price for a terrific lens. Some of these photos I’ve added were even taken through a window but you’d never know it, it stays sharp and focused.

Great lens, no complaints.
Film a bee in flight. Take great portraits. Very sharp, very good quality.

Superb sharpness and surprisingly light weight.
I use this lens for product photography. I don't think I've ever used a sharper lens. Contrast and clarity are second to none. The VR combined with the IBIS and light weight make it remarkably hand holdable even at lower shutter speeds if you're in a pinch without a tripod. I would say it's probably a bit too sharp for a full time portrait lens, however the soft & swirly bokeh character is very beautiful. As with any macro lens, you do get a lot of focus breathing, so you have to compensate for that when focus stacking or doing video work. Bonus - it works well with the Meike extension tubes if you want to surpass 1:1 magnification.

Excellent quality lens and great for Macro. - Highly Recommended
Really great macro lens. A long lens is always recommended for macro so it can get close image and be far enough away to let light get to your subject.

A great addition to my Z system lenses
I purchased this lens about 1 year ago when it was on sale. The lens is super sharp on my Z7, even wide open @f2.8. It also works well the built in focus stacking feature built in to the camera. I have not done any people portraits with the lens, but I imagine it will be stellar based on what I have seen. The build quality is very good with a metal base, plastic body (keeps the weight reasonable), focus limiter, and programmable function button. The display is a neat feature, but I haven't found it to be super useful, since the info can be displayed on the top camera display. While you may see some cheaper z-mount lenses with a greater macro ratio, I doubt you will find something that has all of the features this lens has, including built in image stabilization. If I have one complaint... it would be the "focus by wire" which is a let down if you like manual focus. This is my first dedicated macro lens, and I am very happy with the lens and results it gives.

Razor sharp images. A worthwhile investment.

My new favorite
I've been in the Nikon ecosystem for far, far longer than I would care to admit, but it's long enough that my previous go-to for macro work is a 55mm f/2.8 manual focus. I've switched to the Nikon Z50 mirroless as my primary camera and am trying to avoid the FTZ adapter, so upgrading to the Z 105mm f/2.8 seemed like a logical next step. I got it today and visited the garden to see what sort of damage that I could create. I'm super impressed by the clarity this lens provides. There's obviously some trial and error getting critical focus at macro distances, but pixels are cheap so filling the SD card is relatively painless. The 105 does great double duty as a portrait lens as well as closeups. Glad that I could get it while the price was dropped by $200, but I would say it's a great value even at full price. fwiw, I paired this with the 62mm Hoya HD3 MC UV filter to provide front lens element protection

AMAZING lens!
I have the Nikkor 85 mm S and 50 mm S and love both of them. But the sharp, crispness of the 105 mm MC is unmatched. The 105 is a bit heavy but since I use it mainly on a tripod, the weight isn’t a huge deal. But it feels solid. Like a super professional lens. The focusing is lacking if used as a portrait lens. But if used as a macro lens, it’s fine. It does do some hunting but does a good job finding the focal points. The versatility of this lens is amazing. Great for macro AND portraits.
