Instant performance upgrade without waiting for rebuild of dizzy ...if you can still find rebuilder
Vehicle: 1988 Land Rover Defender 3.5 l V8 twin carbReplacing: Lucas 35DLM(Coil too -see other review)Easy. No more ballast or two pin ignition module. Built into the dizzy. Stayed the shaft with wd40, backed the gear off about 30 degrees, made sure pump shaft at 10 and 4 o’clock , TDC on number one piston: fired right up.Note;: new to V8 work. But tearing apart top end on this resto-mod I worked a little more OT and pulled the trigger to replace Lucas unit.Researched rebuilding and it was 5 weeks out minimum for similar or a bit more. I will do that eventually but I was impatient. New technology SOMETIMES better. So far so good.If you get the matching coil then the swap is easy. No worry about correct ohms rating and you lose a “point of failure” by removing ignition module on Lucas unit. That can be expensive if you want the attachment to move onto the fender or firewall because of heat issue. If you have time and no rush, consider rebuilding original. If you want something up and running that works and is efficient without breaking the bank, this is your choice.

Perfect drop in replacement
Absolutley perfect except the leads needed to be about 6 inches longer for my '95 land rover. Sitting side by side with the stock (w/remote ignition amp) distributor, they are nearly identical. I did remove the oil pump drive since my Rover has the crank driven oil pump. The vacuum advance is even a 'Made in England' lucas unit. Wiring was dead simple, two wires that run to the coil and that's it. What I want to know is how they can sell it for barely more than what the stock vacuum advance costs. Get this, the 40011 coil, a set of plugs and plug wires and the entire ignition system is replaced. Would highly recommend buying this instead of replacing parts on the stock ignition.--edit--8 years later and still working perfectly!

The cap was wrong.
The Dizzy was ok, but the cap does not properly fit. It's to small and can only be removed with brute force. But the way from Germany to USA is l long and expensive.

The perfect hot spare for aging Triumphs
Nice easy replacement for the aging old technology Triumph V8 engines. It looks great on the shelf next to the rest of the spare bits.
