Great and brutally honest!
With tons of visual animation resources available online nowadays (schools, blogs, YouTube channels, etc.), I must admit that I was skeptical about this book at first. But I found myself super motivated to get my hands dirty and animate! The author is also really frank about how animation is not always fun. It can be really frustrating and it requires a lot of persistence and discipline. It’s hard work!I definitely recommend it!

The Experienced Animator's Next Survival Kit.
What comes after “The Animator’s Survival Kit”?“How to Animate” comes after!I have done my 1000 bouncing balls and loads of walk cycles. I’m past learning the animation principles. I have worked for more than 10 years as a character animator on feature films. And I feel my learning curve has stagnated a long time ago and I can’t move on. But this book is refreshing reading! I feel I can start improving myself again. This is what I have been waiting for. Books for animators in the industry who wants to keep on developing. This is the first book of many in a series. It’s a brief touch of what is in store for us in the rest of the books as well as the authors many personal experiences from his 30 years in the animation industry.I can’t wait for the rest of the books to come out!

A much needed book for animators
A great resource that bridges the gap between animation education and the industry.Chris Derochie is a veteran animator with 3+ decades of experience and he's not afraid of sharing secrets and tricks of the trade that will make the career of a young animator so much easier!I can't wait to read the other chapters... Highly recommended!

Great overview and intro to animation book
I’m really curious about the rest of the series. I’ve been animating professionally for 14 years and it was great to read about similar experiences and teaching techniques and topics in this first release. Can’t wait to read through all the upcoming books!

Incomplete
Part of me wants to give this 1 or 2 stars, I will tell you why in a second. This book is useful and has some good points, but the problem is about half of the book basically says "more on this in the later books". The book constantly talks about these other books, but where are they?? Have they not been released yet? I've tried web searches, or looking for any other books published by Derochie, and nothing. The whole point of this book is to get an intro to the next books, which there are supposedly quite a few, which will give you a comprehensive course in animation. Does the author think people are going to delay their learning and education for months/years while he releases the next 20 books months separated at a time? Why release this book without releasing a few of the others along with it? Does not make sense. If I find this other books because of an error on my part I will come back and fix the rating, but as of now this book on its own is not worth 5 stars.

Another motivational speech book
this book spends most of its time talking about opinions AROUND animating. There's only like 2 chapters that aren't and those mostly talk AROUND the techniques; Talking about what Techniques you need but not teaching how to do them. no graphical examples or presentations, alot of repeated points presented as if they're new(ALOT of padding), and points where he goes off track for a little too long. This is more like a motivational speech kind of book than an actual guide. This person may know how to animate, but he doesn't have a clue how to teach itTrust me, You'll get 10x more helpful advice using pinterest or subscribing to animation tutorial channels.Oh, and the writer apparently felt the need to make this book a pt1.1 star doesn't begin to show my dissatisfaction. Also, I'm tired of books/courses that you download ONLINE telling you to use the internet as a MAIN point.

Great book!
Good as a starting point for animators with some experience. This is the first book of a series. Looking to read the rest of the books.
