What is the difference between the new and old version please?

It's basically the same. The (new) one will be deleted soon.

Does the Armor grip soft or hard ?

It is a soft grip. The outer material is TPE, also known as Thermoplastic Elastomer. However the core material is made of a hard material PP. So it's the soft grip that you could feel solidity of PP through TPE of the rubbery soft outer material.

I checked with Vessel in Japan and they say they do not make these. Please verify.

Why are the screwdrivers marked as p.1, p.2, p.3 if they are not phillips? instead, shouldn't they be marked #1, #2, #3? unless the p is from jips..

There are no reasons for it. We used to describe Phillips, or should we say, Cross Point blade tip as p.1, p.2, p.3, and etc. We sometimes describe them as PH1, PH2, and PH3 because those are the nominal description of crusiform blade tips for cross recessed screws in the US. Sorry for confusion, but please consider all screwdriver produced by our own factory are the so-called JIS Drive specification. You can find out that from the country of origin. It is Japan or Thailand.
