Subnautica: Below Zero (PS4)

If you loved the first Subnautica, this is a must play. The graphics are smooth and gorgeous. The survival and build aspects are extremely well done forcing you to tediously manage hydration, nutrition, and warmth at first, but providing ways to solve those basic needs so you feel like a real pro as you progress. This sequel adds several new elements to the original to keep it fresh with a significant expansion of the above-water adventure. You do NOT have to play the first to enjoy this one as the stories are virtually unrelated, but I would say that if I were only going to play one that I would play the original first. Load times on game saves and when teleporting across regions are looong on the PS4, and I would recommend playing on a PS5 if available. I would give the original 5 stars and this one 4 stars only because it was not THAT different from the first. But if you like chocolate ice cream, then more chocolate ice cream is probably good too.

I loved the first Subnautica. Play that one first because it is 1. superior and 2. you won't understand BZero's story. Overall I enjoyed this one and can't wait for a sequel. As always some good and bad.Positives: Big improvement in the ability to pin crafting recipes. Recipes are a little easier (ie titanium ingot). Resources are fairly distributed and they even give extra batteries. More storage options for resources. Ending is interesting. More vehicles. Land exploration. Game never crashed or got buggy unlike the first.good priceNegatives: voice work is weak. Computer voice has been replaced. Woke culture is pushed hard. Not much mystery or suspense. Lack of tension. Easy to get lost. Not enough landmarks. resource detector is hard to use. Sometimes you don't know what to do or where to go. Confusing maps can be found. Should be able to craft improvements for seatruck lighting.
