It’s a filter that pops into the GermGuardian air cleaner. Remove back cover, pull out old filter, stuff in new filter, put cover back on...5 second job, easy to do, and you feel like you accomplished something.I get pretty good life out of one of these. For an entire downstairs living area, I have to change it every 4-5 months if the fan is set on 1...the higher the fan speed the shorter the filter life but the quicker it changes the air...hope that makes sense? I put one of these units in the attic too to cut down on dust bc my overflow clothes are hanging up there...that unit I set at two bc it’s dustier up there and I get about the same amount of use out of a filter.I’m glad these are ‘generic’ bc the brand name ones were almost $50 before they quit making them and switched entirely to this generic kind. So, obvs the price is very good, and makes me not want to try to clean them(you can’t...trust me on this, I wouldn’t lie to you...) and I feel like I’m keeping the air in the house cleaner.

Great filter has pre-filter to catch all large particles of dust and cat hair. I use Fette Filters in all three of my GermGuardian 22" air purifiers. I always like to compare new with old used filter; it's so amazing all the stuff it filters out of my room.My GermGuardian has a RED flashing indicator light for when it's time to replace the filter, per the unit instructions; hold down UV light button and turn unit "off" to "on" to reset the filter light.Amazon even made me a Virtual Dash Button for quick reorders so I don't have to go searching for it.Filter is shipped in sealed plastic for protected against the elements and in a standard product labeled box. Amazon (so far) has enclosed my filters in Amazon outer box when mailing my orders. So you should be well protected if your package has to wait outside for a few hours.

Got this because it was cheaper. It's just a smidge too big for the units I have, but it pretty much fits. However, over the past several months I've noticed no real wear and tear on the filter. Usually the charcoal filter will become caked with dust, and I can vacuum it off. Then the paper filter will become noticeably dirty after about 3 months of use.Since I bought these off brand filters, I have not been keeping the house significantly cleaner. Lifestyle and cleaning habits are the same, but the filters are showing no wear and tear at all. The charcoal filter has collected some dust, but the paper filter still looks brand new. Maybe it's working really hard or not really working..... Not sure.Update:These filters are in fact working. Upon closer inspection, they are showing some dirt. So, the house is not remarkably cleaner than usual....

I'd rank these at a 4.5 if I could. They aren't quite as sturdy as the OEM filters, (for instance, when I try to change the pre-filter, the frame for the filter rips... or the velcro rips off the filter frame...) but they do the job handily. The filters seem to last about as long as the name brand and also catch impurities as well... (I haven't noticed a difference between the two.) So, to save $10 or so a filter, I'll buy these again!

This filter is small, doesn't make too much noise, and filters the whole house (we live in an apartment). We have a cat, and several people who have come to visit us have commented that they were surprised their allergies weren't bothering them. I am always surprised at how much dust and dirt comes out when changing filters, and I keep a clean house. I would buy this again if/when it breaks down.

So they dont fit that well and the carbon filter I doubt is genuine. It's a sponge like material and ALL other brands and models I have bought are normal carbon filters.I dont think I'll be buying these ones again.
