Note, I reserve five star reviews for items that far exceed my exceptions. If something does the job it was designed for well It gets four stars. Four stars is very good, five is above and beyond. This review has three parts: the BASU alarm, Amazon, and the USPS. For the BASU alarm itself, a solid four stars. Very nice, sturdy and sufficiently loud to get the attention you need. I liked it so much I ordered another one for my sister and have subsequently ordered five more for Christmas gifts. My only grip is that BASU seams to has discontinued this model which is a shame because the loops on both ends gives the user more options for deployment. I can hook the alarm to a backpack or computer bag and the other end to a fixed object and it my bag tries to “run away” the alarm will be tripped. Or I can loop it around a hotel room door knob with some paracord and have an impromptu room alarm. You can’t do that with models with a loop on just one end. I e-mailed BASU to ask if it had in fact been discontinued, but never heard back from them. Now for Amazon - five stars. The second one I ordered was shipped in a timely manor but was lost by the USPS. When it was determined my package was missing, Amazon gave me the options of canceling or re-ordering it. I chose to re-order. I re-ordered it on Sept. 30th at 7:17 p.m. and it was delivered at 3:52 p.m. the next day. Yes, less than 24 hours. THANK YOU Amazon. And to the USPS, zero stars. Enough said.

No extra batteries as mentioned in the ad but it seems to work well enough. this is why the 4 star rating. I don't know if it's 130db, I thought it would be uncomfortably loud. It's loud but not ear piercing loud. The two pieces are a rather tight fit and I hope it will loosen up over time.

I have three sets now to cover a wider circumference in bear territory. Gives me that extra warning to get the Mossburg 490 into action.

I rigged this up to my trash can to startle a nuisance black bear away, and it worked perfectly. The bear took off without disturbing my trash can as I had planned.

The noise this device made is too much and helps you to keep the creatures away in your hiking trips even in the mountains.

I can't really attest to the effectiveness of this device in terms of a personal safety / emergency situation, as I have fortunately have not had test this device in that capacity. However, there are several things I can say about the quality of the device as listed below: 1. The activation clip, after 4 months of use attached to a keychain with exactly 3 keys, has now loosened to a point that it occasionally detaches if I am a bit rushed in grabbing this out of my pocket and the keys get enough momentum to pull the clip. 2. The volume of the sound itself, by my estimation, is about the same if just slightly louder than a standard home smoke detector. Consider this and the situation where you intend this to be helpful in your situation: the effectiveness will vary from a loud dance club to a quiet side street. From a more pragmatic point of view as a general alarm device, I have used this as a makeshift bike alarm using a key lanyard when I have to leave my bike to run into a convenience store. I also used this as a temporary alarm when working out in the field to temporarily "secure" toolboxes, heavy equipment, gates when having to get the site superintendent to lock/unlock areas becomes highly impractical. Placed either high or low beyond normal eye field-of-view, it has been an effective short-term alarm to keep people honest.

Buen producto, el sonido que produce si es fuerte y molesto lo que te puede dar segundos valiosos para poder salir del problema o huya el agresor, el único pero seria que le falta un indicador de bateria baja para no ser sorprendido por no funcionar en plena emergencia.
